k, ive used the search bar like everyones says to do first so i dont get my head bit off for making a new thread, i tried 3" bl install, 3" body lift, 3" bl, nothing came up jsut kept sayin sorry blah blah blah.. so ive resulted to this..now i dumped 33x10.50s on her about a month ago on stock suspension but now its time for a lift. so i looked at the rcd and i can get it for 2800$ or i got for the body lift which is 300$ both canadian prices. with that said ive chose the 3" bl and i wanna install it myself.. is there anything i should look out for, anything that id need a hoist for? or if me an my buddies can do it in his garage. pics of the truck are on cardomain and all the info about it is in my sig. and if this is posible to do at home then ill order it asap. but i jsut dont feel like payin somone like 500$ to install it. so help would be awsome, you guys have helped out with everything else so it hought u could on this too. thanks guys!

 

if you have general automotive knowledge and a jack you can more than likely do it yourself. The bed is a piece of cake the cab is a little harder just for reference

 

ive done 3 body lifts this year alone on rangers.

u can do it at home with a jack no need for a hoist, i would recommend air tools but agian that isnt a must. about 2-3 weeks before u start, start spraying the bolts with penitrating oil every couple days.

before u start it check out the A/C line around hte belts its pretty close and u may have to bend that line, other than that i cant think of anything else.

the kit comes with everything u need.

lol i have the knowledge i worked for chrysler but never had to do a lift, i have every snap on/bluepoint air tool needed and compressors to go with..i figured the box would be easy its the cab im more concerned about. and i did search or i wouldnt have started this :P or someone make the search option a lil more broader. lol and i wouldnt have 2-3 weeks..it would be installed next week im not waiten 2 weeks to install a lift thats gonna be sitten here glarin at me lol.

You don't need the 2-3 weeks of penetrating oil it just makes things easier. Go for it and don't forget to take pics so you can show us the process and how you did.

 

I would listen to what zach said....2-3 weeks on soaking your body bolts.

dont listen if you dont want, but we did a body lift on a 2003 truck (without soaking the bolts) and had a lot od problems on one of his bolts. we had to drill the bolt out.

when we I soaked my 2001 the bolts came out easier then the 2003 bolts.

If you have basic tools, then you can probably do it at home.
its deffinitally worth saving $500 and doing it yourself.
Us michigan guys have the process down to 6 hours with a LOT of bull****ting around.
If we went strait to work we could finish in 4.5 hours...but thats not fun.

make sure you have a t-55 bit for bed bolts and a deep 18 and 19 socket. extenders are needed as well for a few bolts in the engine bay. (12 -14 inches on extenders)
other then that, the directions are awesome, they clearly tell you what is needed to do.

 

soaking the bolts is excellent advice, we had a hell of a time on the one we did down here in FL (we ended up fabricating a tool to hold the rubber mount that kept spinning with the bolt.) It helps to have 2 or 3 friends, esp. when you get to aligning the cab, and someone with small arms/hands for the steering rod extension. The other advise I'd offer is to follow ALL the directions, even the ones that seem like you can ignore them (like disconnecting the radiator before you lift the cab, etc.) We spent alot of time sorting out the fan shroud after we lifted the cab without disconnecting it.

 

Don't get me wrong guys i wasn't saying that you shouldn't soak the bolts, I would, but if he wanted to do it in a week and not 3 he could still do it. Like I said I agree 100% on soaking the bolts.

 

Umm, I didnt soak mine, i didnt even think about it, till i was fighting with the last tow bolts, the radiator area ones. But im sure shooting the bolts a couple days in a row before hand, will ease some installation.

 

i didnt mean that harshly bud, i just dont wanna wait..its like an excitement but if your suggesting i do then i will..i have a few buds that wanna do this..fords trying to get me to let them install it but shes my baby and id rather do it and they also want 10hrs to install it, i have all the sockets thanks for the heads up and lots of extensions..would an air rachet work in some places better then a normal socket wrench? ie..tight enclosed places to turn a normal socket wrench?..and with diconnecting the rad do u mean draining all the fluids out ?? but ill be sure to attack all the bolts this weekend with liquid wrench. and another thing..i take it im removing the seats and what not to get at the cab bolts?

 

you only need to remove that back seats front ones are fine.

and u dont have to drain the radiator or anything, just unbolt it from the body before u start to lift it

i get in a hurry all the time too but its a pain getting them bolts out otherwise. i mail ordered my lift on tuesday, got it wednesday, installed it wednesday night, drove it to work thursday morning. had 3 people helping me. so u think u get in a hurry

 

ha i had to sit and LOOK at my lift for like a week because it took forever to get us michigan guys together.

it actually only took 1 week to get together, but it seemed like 10 years...lol

lol thats like me..i have the chance to get it asap.. and its like when i got the 33's..i had to wait a week to put them on..looking at them KILLED ME.. and the lift i jsut wanna get it on lol..waitings gonna give me grey hairs at 21 lol

 

Just for another opinion, you shouldn't have any problem doing it yourself. I will second the comments on the AC line though... I didn't do it correctly and it came back to bite me... It's not that hard, just one part you should take your time on. But that's a whole story that will be in a different post next week when I get pictures.

It is pretty easy. Me and Bob and some guys did mine in about 8 hours with no prior bodylift install knowledge and lots of bs'ing. I didn't soak the bolts, so we had a lil bit of a hard time with them, but nothing too major.

 

got mine done in about 6 hours or so.. alot of bull****'n though hah.. me and my friend whos an army mechanic was all i had and it was a piece of cake. even with my truck being from Minnesota where salt is as comn as air. I cant believe you didnt find any search info.. :p

oh and another thing, if you want to save some money get the bodylift off of 4wheelparts. com.. and get the get for 98-00 or watever, it still works for the newer trucks like ours and is way cheaper.. i got mine for 159.99! thats a deal

I have done 2, one in my driveway, one in my firends garage. No you do not need a hoist or anything like that. The bed is easy it weighs nothing and is easy to lift. The cab on the other hand is heavy, we used a high lift off-road jack, you could lift it with a floor jack if you can get it high enough with blocks of wood or something. The hardest part is getting the body mount bolts loose. We used a torch to heat them up to break up the loc-tite and free them up. I would use the torch on the head of the bolt and on the treads under the bottom but be careful not to burn the rubber part. Then we used a floor jack and a block of wood and jacked up the wood agaist the body mount. Don't be afraid to jack it up have the whole weight of the truck on the body mount. If you don't have one buy a air compressor and a heavy duty impact.

 

ha air isnt required, i did my whole truck without air tools, its a plus but not needed at all.

 

No you don't NEED air tools, but I would not do one without them

soak the bolts say 3 days ahead of time with some PB blaster or JB-80. good to go.
