Need lift advice

Been looking through the forum and can only find body lift kit stuff... I'm looking more towards the coil spacers and shackle kit, would anyone disagree towards that? My question is, is there an affordable kit out there (around / under) $100? I wanna stay away from body lifts.. Also why have the lifts I've been finding are higher in the front then rear.. ? I've Been looking at a few on ebay but not sure if they war worth it? I have a 1998 3.0 v6 single cab step side.

First off, why don't you want a body lift? What reasons?

Secondly, more lift on Front so the truck sits level, as in stock form it sits higher in the back.

I was told with a body lift I have to raise everything else like the bumper, rad, have to re-adjust the shift linkage ect. Is that false info? I have read that suspension lifts ride better and have less body roll / sway.

Yes you raise the bumpers etc. However everything you need to do all that is included in the kits.

As for ride, body lift it will ride like stock. Suspension lift it depends on the shocks.

I would replace shocks with pro comp more than likely, moving for college soon so don't want to spend a fortune. Mostly want a little ground clearance and rather not deal with raising and adjusting everything. Then you can see the gas tank and what not and just looks like junk IMO.

plus I have a boat and I use the bumper.. so a body lift is really out of the question..

You don't b see a damn think with a body lift on a rangers. So many people have that misconception.

And you shouldn't use the bumper to town anything regardless.....


Since you don't want a perfectly fine body lift, your options are limited

stfu, if he doesnt want a BL on his ranger, he's already 5 steps ahead of guys like you..

OP, since you have a 2wd, your best bet would be to find a set of lift spindles. they replace your current spindles and give your truck a safe lift and TRUE ground clearance. not hard to install either. here is a how to for the install:

for the back, just go get some "chevy lowering shackles" from your local autozone or oreilly. they fit ranger springs but lift rangers instead of dropping them due to how the shackle setup is. dumming this down a bit because i dont know how mechanically inclined you are. not trying to be insulting.

things you should know:
trimming the steering stop knubs off of the lower control arms is a good idea so they dont hit your brakes and put air into the system when you're at full lock when turning. also, make sure you pack the bearings real well with grease and torque them accordingly.

something to consider:
since you have a 98, you have the smaller rotors. if you were to buy lift spindles for an 01+ truck, you would need the 01+ rotors because they got an inch bigger. the stopping power is worth having so i would suggest doing that.. but you can still get 98-00 lift spindles and run your current rotors no problem.

with lift spindles, you wont need longer shocks in the front, it will ride great compared to stock or with coil spacers.

He had incorrect info about a BL, I corrected it. Don't like it, suck it up.

talk **** when you have a sfa under your truck.. till then its just talk. (i really am looking forward to that). you told him he was limited in options because you didnt know what options he really had...

theyre actually more options for him than for a 4x4 ranger.. camburg, fabtech, doestch, coil spacers etc. it all depends on what he wants to spend. :)
