I'm assuming you have auto. I may be corrected on this but check to make sure the cable for your auto transmission isnt pulled tight anywhere and its "free" all along the cable. Good luck! hope that makes sense

There's a neutral safety switch on the side of the tranny that the cable snaps onto. Get a light and watch it move as someone cycles through PRNDL...you should probably see the problem...make sure it's plugged in too lol.

I did my bodylift like a month ago and couldn't get the gear selector cable unclipped from the firewall. I gave up in fear of breaking it and just kept a close eye on it while I lifted. The gear shifter was just slightly off but no problems until last night when my truck wouldn't start until it was in neutral. I guess I'm going to have to try again to pull it off the firewall. The plug thing that holds it onto the firewall looks different than the one in the bodylift instructions. Does anybody know how to get it off? Do I just pry really hard, or should I try and access it from the back, under the dash? '07 4.0L FX4 with a 5r55e.

If you pry on it, it will come out its just pressed in but on mine even with it out its still tight but at least the gear selector is in the right spot.

Pried it out with a prybar, it seemed to loosen the cable a bit, it shifts now like it did before the bodylift. To the OP, if you're still around, did you solve your problem?

yeah i solved the problem, but crappy thing is today, i dont really know how to explain it, but the clip by the tranny for the shift cable broke so now i cant put my truck in park unless i go under the truck, so ill need to get that fixed asap.

Wow that sucks. Is that because the cable was too tight or another reason?

no idea, im guessing that, but to me the cable wasnt all that tight, it could just be bad luck, i got home after work, and go to put my truck in park, and it would just stay in reverse.
