I'd have to say that either a Gibson or a Hooker aero chamber would sound great and sure wouldn't be too loud.
I'd also like to add that the 2.3L engine needs a certain amount of back pressure and will run better with the stock exhaust and a well-functioning catalic converter. Yes, you might gain a little bit of horsepower running straight pipe and yes, it might sound better or louder, but, you will loose some of that precious torque and in extreme cases, you will burn the exhaust valves over time.
There is a reason why manufacturers like Toyota use a mere 1 and 5/8's of an inch diameter exhaust piping on their 4 cylinder trucks.
Now, on the other extreme, you have racecars with small block chevy's running open headers. This maximizes the horsepower and since they only run for 'a short amount of time' and the engine gets rebuild all the time, this is the way to go.
So, either way, there are benefits to be had, but for me personally, I keep mine stock, also because we have emissions testing
