2.5 Timing Belt change?
Just wonder how often my timing belt should be changed? just got the truck! and loving it. I have about 120k, and i don't believe the timing belt and pulley has been changed on it. just wondering if it should be something to worry about? I didn't know if it was an interferance motor? so if my timing belt did break for some reason, if it would harm anything. thanks Alot. oh yeah, Its a 2.5 2001.

I know it is not a ranger... but just last weekend a friend and I changed the timing belt in my intrepid. He works for Chrysler and said we should do since it was over do (110k miles).
We went in and changed it but the original belt looked great probably would of been fine without changing it.
The whole process on my car took a lot of time but for the most part was easy.

The recommended factory change interval for the 91+ motors with the round tooth timing belt is 100K miles, however if it does break it will not harm anything, you will just need to be towed either home or to a shop and replace it and realign the timing marks.
The older square tooth timing belts are recommended to be changed at every 60K miles.

2000 ranger 2.5l timing belt change interval
On a 2000 ranger 2.5l engine the timing belt change interval spaced by Ford is 160,000. To long in my opinion. I changed mine at 116,000 and it showed wear although probably would have made 160,000.
Additionally if your belt fails it is not as easy to get the proper setup on your timed components as these guys make it sound. Undoubtedly if you simply line up Mark's you'll be 180 out on your cam. Take your alve cover off and rotate cam until your number one valves make a V. This will be TDC on the valve train. Then put your number one piston on TDC and bring your oil pump mark to its orientation. If you dont do this and it works your a lucky sob.
