'87 2.3 mpg question

So today when I got to school I noticed that I had a 1/4 tank. And o have only put 81 miles on this tank. When I filled it up last I filled it to 3/4 tank. That was all the money I had at the time. So in about half a tank I only went 81 miles. When I bought the truck in October I got great gas mileage. And it just keeps getting worst. Does anybody kno how I can get my gas milage back to around 20 miles per gallon

No. But I park in the teacher lot and there r cameras around where I park. And my truck is quite dirty cuz of the salty here in Michigan. There were no finger prints around my gas door

doesnt sound like an accurate way to track fuel consumption, need to focus on the fuel bought not how much you "filled" the tank since the sending unit could give you misinformation on actual tank levels. id check the fuel filter, plugs, and egr ****

You need to start with an actual mpg, not just guessing. To do that you need to fill that bad boy up.

*I've gotten my 90' up to 23.X mpg. woot-woot

if you still have the catalytic converters they could be stopped robbing gas mileage....the biggest tell tale sign of that is power loss. So if you have noticed much power loss you may want to check that out. Also check and make sure you have a cdlean air filter as that could make a difference

today i got my bad boy just about filled up with $25. its half way up the letter f on the gauge. but i think its a bad tripometer cuz thats wat u have been basing it on. and also my truck has never had any power wat so ever. stock i think it had about 86 hp.

you need to fill it FULL, reset the trip meter to 0 and drive it for a while, when you need gas again FILL IT FULL again and calculate how many miles on the trip meter by how many gallons you just put in...bam...gas mileage

Shouldn't have to say it but......make sure your odometer is accurate.

That's the problem I'm not too sure if my tripometer is too accurate cuz when it gets to 99.9 miles it takes about a half mile to a mile to crank over to 100 miles. And it won't go above 199.9 miles

Well I think I needs a tune up cuz when i go to start it after it sits all night it misfires I think. It sounds like it's camed for like 20 to 30 seconds. But I tried to check my plugs when I bouht the truck and I believe that the spark plugs r stuck in the head. So I might tale it to a shop around here to have them try to fix it
