Timing belt life

What is the life expectancy of the timing belt on the 2.3 engine in terms of mileage?

Welcome to the forum

80-90k miles

Ford specs 70k, ranger owns say 100k, lol, we are a cheap bunch of coconuts, so 80-90k would be good time to change it

2.3l Lima engines are non-interference engines, which means valves and pistons do not share any space in the cylinder, so if timing belt should stretch or break no engine damage will occur.
Engine will stop running of course

I replaced mine at 180k miles. Original Belt. 100k miles to me is still to early.

Still have factory serpentine belt on my truck at 235k miles.

Sheltonfilms, I wish I got that kind of longevity out of my s-belt! I always had to change mine every few years, when it would start cracking in the grooves. I`ve used either Dayco or Gates, mainly.

Longevity of "rubber" parts like belts is also geographic location related

Since you are in tennesse like sheltonfilms you may get a longer life

Hot dry locations cause belts to dry out and crack quicker

Also air quality, back when I lived in the LA area the smog would get pretty bad, lol, I remember having to change fan belts every few years, hot, dry, and smog.
But newer belt material now-a-days may help.
Also remember rubber window seals would crack pretty fast there, hot sun and bad air ate 'em up :)

But for things like timing belts Ford can't use a national "average", they have to spec worst conditions and expected life of belt in those conditions, thats where the 70k miles would come from
