Hard hard HARD Idle

My truck started idling really hard the other day. When I say really hard I mean it was rocking from side to side. It was making a weird noise like someone was tapping the gas and revving it up on a rythmic pattern. I changed the IAC and the throttle body was already new. It eased off some but its still not quite right. (I haven't had this truck two months, I bought it used...i think I may have gotten duped) I'm not sure what else it could be. I also just realized that the horn doesn't work (relay clicks but the horn doesn't blow), wipers only work on high and the odometer and gas gauge only work sometimes...also the A/C wont blow cold. I don't know if that has anything to do with the engine idling so hard to where it shuts off or not but, there we have it. Any suggestions?

Not sure if this is too late...but if this happened all of a sudden, sounds like an electrical short in the fuse box somewhere. The A/C, Ignition, and wiper relays are all pretty close together, no? When power shoots over to other circuits when its not supposed to, all sorts of craziness can result. pull the fuses and relays for the affected parts and visually inspect and perform continuity checks. Pull up the fusebox and check the underside of all the wires. Unplug harness connectors and look for any gaps that are bridged with rust, corrosion, or overly exposed wires. After running the truck, is there a burning smell near the fusebox? Very indicative of a short. Get you a wiring diagram and a multimeter and have fun playing detective!

Just got through replacing the coil pack and it didn't help. Truck refused to start on the 3rd try.

Now the door locks started cycling by themselves when I turn on the ignition key. The ignition is also getting difficult. Jamming when I try to turn the key. This started around the same time as the door locks started going crazy. It seems to all be related because the truck never starts after the door locks click by themselves.

Could this be an anti theft or an IGNITION SWITCH problem? I had a Chevy Colorado that did something similar and read that they were prone to anti theft malfunctions. Seems like a 1995 Ranger would be too old to have that.

Going to look into how much the ignition switch costs. It recently started sticking so I might need one very soon anyway. Damn I hate chasing around, replacing parts but I don't know what else to do!

Please help if you got any ideas! The problem is getting worse and worse and has gone from a minor occasional annoyance to doing it every other time!

I was wrong about the engine flooding. A friend pressed the valve on the fuel rail while it wouldn't start and no fuel came out. THE PROBLEM IS DEFINITELY NOT ENOUGH OR NO FUEL when it refuses to start. My friend says it's definitely the fuel pump but I would like to make sure since it's kind of a big deal to replace it.

Anyone got a 2nd opinion or alternative suggestion to check out before I go ahead and replace the fuel pump?

My idea and opinion, Start your own thread so people don't reply to the original posters 3 year old problems.

Give as many details as you can about your problems.

Also put the year, engine, transmission, and drive type in the first post of your "NEW THREAD"
