So i installed a new clutch kit, and slave cylinder on my 2001 2.3L ranger.
But the clutch is soft and wont go into gear.
Am i bleeding it wrong. I tried following the HAYNES book, but it doesnt work for me.
Someone on this site suggested gravity bleeding. Someone suggested vaccuum bleeding.

Can somone help me??? I really need my truck back

 

OK so now it's almost june. My problem with bleeding the clutch is air was trapped in the master cylinder.

For all those who have problems bleeding your clutch, you have to unscrew the clutch pedal, turn the master cylinder upside down, open the bleeder and pump the pedal. My clutch hardened up after only like 3 pumps. AMAZING!!!

NEW PROBLEM (HELP!!!!!)
So my clutch has been fine since jan 23 when i installed. Now its may 27 and my pedal has gotten soft. I can drive it but it needs to be more firm. Clutch resevoir is filled with oil.

ANYONE???

 

My truck did the same exact thing. It might have been time for a new master cylinder. Mine went out on my 03. I kept trying to bleed it and black stuff kept coming out.

 

really, that sucks.
If i bench bleed it, will i get the pedal back? (i dont have any money to get a new master cylinder $75)

What goes bad in the master cylinder, cause i opened mine back in jan, and all i is is a rod, spring and like two small rubber washers/ grommets.

 

I think the rubber starts to disintegrate.

What happened with mine is that I had the clutch changed and I didn't know about the slave cylinder problem at the time. My clutch was fine for like 4 months then it started to get soft. It got to the pint to where I had to pump it like 20 times before I could start driving. So I tried to bleed it myself and all this black crap came out. So I just bled it until the fluid was clear. It helped for about two weeks then it went back to how it was. I said screw it and I bough a new slave and master along with a new clutch. It was changed again in January and it is still going good.

 

SO you changed your clutch but not your slave?? Then 4 months later you changed your clutch again, along with a new slave, and master cylinder??

Cause after only 4 months, your clutch should still of been good.

 

Well yes. When I took it out it was still good but I didn't want to take any chances.

 

Sounds like a master. When I knew mine was going, is that i had a 7,000 mile slave in there, and kept on bleeding the clutch, and bleeding the clutch, only to temperarily fix it. then get soft again, well....not soft...but complete "looseness" of any pressure on the pedal.

I've changed 3 slaves, and never changed the master. This time, i'll change the master.

Master cured the issue. I just changed it last weekedn.




Review on bleeding clutch: Fill Resevour, open bleeder and let gravity drain it. When no air and solid fluid coming out, close bleeder. Check resevour. Have an assistant slowly press the clutch pedal down to the floor and hold it. Open bleeder(will be underpressure and will squirt out). Repete 3 times.

 

well i would check the master then change the clutch pedal spring
