new 2.3 in an old 2.3

I was wondering how well a new 2.3 would fit in to an older truck with a 2.3 lima. the new motor is a duratec. I could have it rewired.

well, you'd be looking at upgrading to whatever OBD and EEC standards the Duratech requires, which will be quit intensive for the rewire.

Other than that you'd need a new tranny to match the Duratec. Maybe a new rear driveshaft as well if the overall length of the new tranny is different. Possibly the associated engine and tranny mounts will require changing too.

Why are you wanting to do this exactly? For power? If so look into doing a 2.3T Lima swap.

I have a 2001 ranger 2.3l with 39000? miles on it. the truck is trashed. The motor and tranny is good but I cant find a truck with a bad 2.3 but good body. So i thought that if I found an old truck with a good body with a 2.3 or 2.5 lima i could swap out motors and trannys. Thanks

Haha, yah, that's cause the 2.3 Lima's were bullet proof.

your '01 2.3 is a duratec, however even finding an older truck with a bad 2.3 Lima will be virtually impossible as those engines are indestructable. To swap the duratec into an older truck would require engine, tranny, and ALL wireing including engine wireing and body wireing and everything for the OBD 2 including all sensors on and for the engine.

I have the wiring in the truck. motor/trans. I could just disconnect the obd2 from the truck and swap it out. I was just wondering if they bolt up the same. or if I could swap the 2.5 lima for the 2.3 duartec? thanks

when I said this:

Because: The 2.3Lima was such a great engine 99% of the time the engine would/will outlast the vehicle.

2.3L = 2.3L, not sure why you'd think 1.2L, or where 1.2L came from for that matter. However, since your engine says 2.3L on it, then it is not the Lima for sure as there was no part on those engines that said 2.3. The Duratechs that came mid year of '01 did however.

Based on what he asked about the engine "says 2.3L" then yes it would be a Duratech. But please note that the Duratech did not come out till mid year of '01.

Mark123, in order to do this, you will have to do an entire wireing swap (body, interior, engine) to keep it *simple*. If you try to make your under dash wiring work with the underhood wiring of the Duratech you will run into a HUGE nightmare. Same thing with the body wiring.

Essentially you'll have to swap every wire from the Duratech truck to your old truck to make it as simple as possible.

As far bolt up the same, no clue, but I'm betting the Duratech and Lima had their engine mounts differently.
