2.3 basic wiring

I have an 87 2.3L that was modified for mini-stock. I put it in an '87 Ranger but getting rid of the unilite and the MSD and going back to the original ignition. There is no wiring harness and I just want the basic wiring back to get the motor running. Any idea as to what I need and how to wire it up? Color codes won't really work. The part I'm putting in the distributor has a red, a black and a purple wire. (supposedly the original). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ghost Rider.

Original distributor had no wires

If current distributor has Vacuum advance hookup and Orange, black, purple wire then it is a Duraspark distributor and is better to use.

But with an HEI module

Google: duraspark HEI

Cheap and only one 12volt wire to deal with
