Size of tank and gas light question.

How do I know how many gallons my tank is?(2003 XL). I have only had the light on once, and it filled up with 12.6 gallons. I want to know how many gallons I can expect to have left once the light comes on just incase.

every time you fill up reset the trip meter, and keep an eye on on the milage, that way you'll always know. and your know if you have a leak, or someone has been stealing gas or anything else actually

Same for my 02. Granted, I can admit to running my Ranger out of gas once. Pushing it can be tiresome, haha.

I ran this thing all the way to E, and let it stay on there for 20 miles, and the gas light didn't come on. I am thinking it might be broken. I think that next time I am on the backroads, I will bring a gas can, and see how far she goes.

if you don't have a tach, chances are theres no "check guage" light.

my old cluster without the tach had no warning lights.

I had mine come on a few weeks ago on low fuel, the needle was below the E. when that light comes on it means your pretty much out of gas,

I have gone over 30 miles with my 'check gage' light on quite a few times and still had 1.5-2 gallons in the tank.

Hey guys. Just joined today.

The gas gauge on all these trucks is horribly innacurate. I drive 50 miles after the light comes on and the needle is pegged below empty. At that point I still have 2 gallons left. It usually will only take 14 gallons and as previously mentioned, it is supposed to hold 16.5. My buddy has had 3 Rangers and they were all the same. The extended cabs have 19.5 gallon tanks and he can only put in 17 after driving with the light on for 50 miles. I guess they don't want you running out but it would be nice if they were at least sort of accurate.

I finally got a light on at 360 miles. At least now I know I have one and it works!
