New Ranger Owner:Tire/Rim question

Hey Folks,

I just bought a "brand new" '97 Ranger XLT 2wd (4cyl). It had only 49k on it, and it was priced perfect for a third vehicle so I picked it up. Pun intended.

Anyway, tires need to be replaced. I've done some searching already but am coming up dry with no answers or at least none I can understand.

It currently has 225/70's on the 15" upgrade alloy rims on it, and I was wondering what my options are for tire sizes. If possible, I'd like to put a little more height on there without using a lift kit.

Since I'm new to the truck thing, I'm not accustomed to searching for tires using standard measures (e.g., 35"x12", etc) but rather the conventional passenger vehicle meas'nts (e.g. 225/70r15, etc.) So go easy on me!
Help?

Thanks Guys!
Mo

you can fit a 30x9.5x15 tire on it with 100% no problems at all...... a 31x10.5x15 is a little large with no lift... i have 32x11.5x15 with a coil spacer lift in the front...

personally i dont like any P size tires so i dont know all the 222x22x15 measurements...

does it snow in Road island? idk never been there if it does buy some BFG a/t 30x9.5x15 should be right around $113 for a tire something around there if not cheaper if you search around. these will last you an easy 60,000 and are great in the snow

Thanks for the responses guys. Yeah, it snows up here, but not consistently. One winter we'll get dumped on, the next will be bone dry or mostly rain/ice.

I'll check out the sizes you mentioned.

Thanks!
