Help on Replacing the Water Pump!
Hey guys maybe you can help me with this. I need to replace my water pump, and i'm woundering if you have to have any special tools to get the fan off. Has anyone every done this? What all does it take to get to it?
Thanks.

Same as mine: first thing is -- they are left hand thread. In other words, you have to turn it like you're tightening it to get it off.
There's a special tool to get them off, but I just used a chisel and whacked the corner of the big hex nut that holds the fan clutch to the pulley.
Once you get it loose, you just spin it off. Let it lay in the shroud, and take the shroud off with it (2 bolts hold in the shroud, and it just clips in at the bottom) if you can't get it past the shroud.
Remember, you'll be whacking it downward on the drivers side to take it off. It'll feel "wrong" to you -- your mind will tell you you're tightening it, lol. But that's the direction it spins off.
4.0's are just the opposite.

I used a set of channel locks and held the pulley on the shaft behind the fan and used a 16 in. crescent wrench to thread off the fan itself. Did it about 3 months ago. Plan on a good solid day to do it and do it right. Make sure you have RTV sealant too, hate to not have any and have to run out to get some.
