how long do the 3.0's last?
How long do the smaller V6 engine's last with a manual tranny...im lookin at fords/mazdas with as much 90,000 miles on them. If they last for a while then i should be alright getting a high mileage one because i can fix broken stuff, what is everyone else's opnion?(my budget is 7,000 cash; no financing)

I totally agree with you on the 4.0 OHV. The 3.0 is what it is. It ain't no race engine.
I personally feel the same way about the 4.0 SOHC as you do about the 3.0 - I would never own one. I work at a place that does dyno durability testing and we tested quite a few 4.0 SOHCs that's why I would never buy one...
There's a reason the F-150s have the 4.2L OHV 12-valve V6.

like i said, 165k on my 94 supercab....engines are suppose to be very durable....if you get a supercab, expect no power.....mine has no power, but i bought it mostly for the winter, i have my 2000 ex coupe 5-speed civic for fun driving, and let me tell you, it is a revving machine.
of course, with the 3.0, you will still have un-engines problems, like fuel pump, suspension and everything non related to engine.

I run Castrol Syntec Full synthetic oil and Lucas Oil Stabilizer, a 7k mile Filter from FRAM and 93 Octane gas... I also run Castrol Syntec full synthetic in the rear diff and L/S additive, too. Drives like velvet man!
on the Highway I get around 21-22mpg with 4.10s and 29" tall 31x10.50-15s with steel wheels.
I may be investing in some larger wheels and tires soon. Definitely watch the weight on your wheel/tire combo if you plan on upgrading, stay within 5lbs of the stockers and you won't have any problems with gas mileage. You may even gain an MPG or two.
