How long do the smaller V6 engine's last with a manual tranny...im lookin at fords/mazdas with as much 90,000 miles on them. If they last for a while then i should be alright getting a high mileage one because i can fix broken stuff, what is everyone else's opnion?(my budget is 7,000 cash; no financing)

Oh boy, here come the haters.

Change the oil and replace the cam synchronizer at 150k or so and it'll go 300k easy.

i have driven my 4cyl driven 3.0L owned a 4.0L OHV and driven many 4.0L SOHC trucks... you couldnt pay me to own a 3.0L.... rather buy a 4.0L OHV for the reliablity... but then agian people with 4.0L SOHC are getting around 180k out of them thats damn good

I totally agree with you on the 4.0 OHV. The 3.0 is what it is. It ain't no race engine.

I personally feel the same way about the 4.0 SOHC as you do about the 3.0 - I would never own one. I work at a place that does dyno durability testing and we tested quite a few 4.0 SOHCs that's why I would never buy one...

There's a reason the F-150s have the 4.2L OHV 12-valve V6.

+1

I have a 3.0 on a '91 which is still alive, but compared to the 2.7L DOHC 4-cylinder that toyota makes, it doesn't make much power.

been driving it daily throughout the winter, almost time to bring on the honda soon and give the truck some rest.

Bought my 96 3.0L manual with 125,000 miles on it. It now has 165,000 on it and still runs good.

like i said, 165k on my 94 supercab....engines are suppose to be very durable....if you get a supercab, expect no power.....mine has no power, but i bought it mostly for the winter, i have my 2000 ex coupe 5-speed civic for fun driving, and let me tell you, it is a revving machine.

of course, with the 3.0, you will still have un-engines problems, like fuel pump, suspension and everything non related to engine.

Do preventative maintenance and the truck will run for quite some time. I only have 83xxx on my '00 3.0 and love it. It's slow as ****, but that's coming from after owning a couple camaros, mustang, nova, etc.

I run Castrol Syntec Full synthetic oil and Lucas Oil Stabilizer, a 7k mile Filter from FRAM and 93 Octane gas... I also run Castrol Syntec full synthetic in the rear diff and L/S additive, too. Drives like velvet man!

on the Highway I get around 21-22mpg with 4.10s and 29" tall 31x10.50-15s with steel wheels.

I may be investing in some larger wheels and tires soon. Definitely watch the weight on your wheel/tire combo if you plan on upgrading, stay within 5lbs of the stockers and you won't have any problems with gas mileage. You may even gain an MPG or two.

I got 90 on my 3.0 and not a problem yet (knock on wood). I hope I'll be able to hold onto it and get 200+ like Don.
