need some info on swap.

Currently have a 1993 Ranger with 3.0L 5-speed tranny..and a 1999 Ranger with 3.0L Flex fuel with auto tranny....The 1999 has heavy front end damage..Not affecting the engine..it still starts and drives..just has slight bend in the frame....So i'm wanting to swap the engine from the 1999 Ranger to the 1993 Ranger. The 3.0L in the 1993 had a distributor on it the 1999 has a coil pack of course......anyone ever done this kind of swap?????What problems will i run in to?????The engine in my 1993 had a blown head gasket when i bought it and turns out it also had a blown freeze plug...broke down the top end of the engine and it was rusted from sitting up. Went to drain the oil and it was nothing but milky sludge...So engine is no good. Trying to save some money and use the 3.0L out of my 1999 since i already own it and i know it runs. some one give me pointers...would I be better of buying another engine from junk yard or will it be easy doing the 3.0l from the 1999???

The 99 ranger does have a cam sensor which just so happens to be where the distributor would normally be on your 93. (behind the intake). So i think technically it should work if all of your electronics fit on the long block of the 99. One other thing to look at is if putting the flex plate(auto) on instead of the flywheel(manual) will cause the crank to be out of balance

The ECU's will be totally different, so will the engine wiring harness that connects the ECU to the engine and the PDS. Good luck.

similar issue here

im having quite the similar issue myself. im swapping a 97 2.3 for a 94 3.0 and there seems to only be one plug different and its the on on the firewall on the drivers side. the plug on my harness is round (for the 3.0) but the plug on the firewall (from the 2.3) is rectangular and consists of three square plugs. does anyone know how to work around this?
