3.0's are very slow.

i used to have a 92 4.0 ranger and recently bought a 94 3.0 ranger stick shift.
i heard these things were slow and i totally agree, very slowwwwwwwwww.

why is this and is there anything to do to help it somewhat?

i am guessing the engines are too small and underpowered for the size truck?

94 3.0 supercab stick shift.

Use all the rpms.

Shift at >/= 4500.

Taller tires will make it worse unless you regear your rear.

I put 235/70/15s in place of the stock 245/75/16s tires/wheels. Now I rarely use first gear to pull out.

I second that. I'm running 33's without regearing and I have NO power whatsoever, lol.

the 3.0L powerband is funny.. most of its torque peaks at ~4000 rpms, but I can shift at 2000 rpms and get up and go just fine, it has good enough torque IMO. however it sucks around 3000 rpms, so thats why I shift early or go all the way!! haha

i dunno maybe i have a 4.0 in a 3.0 mask or im jsut shelterd but for the most part as long as im not going 60 when i put the gas down it goes pretty good... i passed some truck going maybe 50 yesterday and it took me less then 5 seconds to get infront of him w/o cutting him off, and i was right behind him going the same speed as him...

id love to see what a sohc is like though just to feel the diffrence..

The 3.0 aint the best engine ever, but it gets the job done and is very reliable. I would imagine that I would have no problems hitting the 90mph speed gov on the highway, but how would I know, its not like i've ever done it...

I have a 3.0L and its really not that much slower than my friends 2000 Blazer, he has a 4.3L 5 speed and with one other person in his truck and no one in my mine i can keep up and then in 3rd pull on him but then as soon as 4th hits hes gone lol.

Hey anyway you look at it, Rangers are trucks, most trucks arnt intended to be fast anyways!! hehe.

I got the 4.0 and my friend had a 3.0, i had 32x11 Thornbirds on my truck and he has 31x10.5 on his and i thought he was in reverse, i thought about hitting the brakes to see if his reverse lights were on lol, dont get me wrong, mines no race truck either, no rangers are unless u got a V8 in them!!
