Advice on coolant leak

I have a 1994 Ford Ranger with close to 220,000 miles. It overheated about 6 months ago, took it to the mechanic who changed the water pump. Has been running ok since, but took it in to get the oil changed and another mechanic said it is leaking coolant from the timing chain cover as well! I notice reading here that this is not uncommon! I am hesitant to put more money into repairs as the truck is gettting up there in years and mileage. I'm wondering if I just put in a gallon of antifreeze a month, will this suffice, or am I risking major damage? Any thoughts?

hmmm. Well, I know it's a 6-cylinder engine. Does it make a difference?

Nope, keep topping it off. I decided I had to do something w/ mine when it would leak coolant into the gutter from the driveway after sitting a few days. I ran w/ a leak for more than two years, if it makes you feel any better. Dont just fill up w/ water though.

Thanks for the input! That's what I'm thinking.....as long as I keep adding 50/50 antifreeze as the level decreases and there is no long-term harm done, I may just have to live with the slow leak. If the truck were newer or had lower mileage, (and if I hadn't just paid $400 to have the water pump replaced!) I would just have it repaired....but at this point, I would rather save the money for a new (at least to me) vehicle and keep the truck for an in-town vehicle.
