Do it yourself exhaust.
Ok this may be a bit long winded so please bare with me.
A few months back a buddy gave me a muffler that he bought from Autozone to go on his full size truck. I forgot the brand but it's the extremely cheap flowmaster knockoff. Anyway I finally decided to put it on and do it myself. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person out there so this is a monumental task for me.
Well I get the old muffler and pipe cut out no problem. I cut the stock pipe about 3 inches forward of the stock muffler (so you can picture what Im doing) The new muffler is a 2.5" inlet and exit so I get a step down from 2.5 to 2 and get it plugged in and I use those pipe clamps to hold it all in place. For the exit I use a 2.5" turndown and it almost hits the rear axle. Stops right before it.
My main issue is how to hang the dang thing. Can anyone tell me the right way to hang an exhaust and from what on this thing. I tried to figure out a good way to use the stock mounts but couldnt find a solution I liked. I do have it working from there but theres too much movement.It's in there and "functional" but I hung it too high and it rattles so I have to lower it some. If anyone can tell me the best way to do it (without a welder) and could possibly climb under their truck and take a snap shot I would GREATLY appreciate it. I could provide the how not to photos if needed.
If any of you are curious how it sounds and are thinking about getting one of the el cheapo's from Autozone.. Don't. It's sounds good at idle but beyond that it sounds like a mini truck with a glass pack.
Forgive my ignorance but has anyone replaced everything from that joint with the springs back? I realize that the bottle neck would be on the engine side of that joint but it would be cool to go to 2.5" or even 3" from there back. Anyone done this?
I would also greatly appreciate recomendations on what to replace this stuff with. I'm trying to do stuff myself instead of paying others so please keep that in mind. I know I can take it to a shop and for $100 have a flowmaster put on but I really want to do it myself.
