I am wanting to cut off 2 Catylitic converters

Will it still run right if i did that?
Would the truck have enough backpressure, and would it sound dumb with a thrush glasspack and two cats cut off?

Why do you want too? The stock cats aren't restrictive

Nonetheless your safe taking the cats out after the 02 sensors.

I have no cats, there is a PCM update for 98-00 rangers and possibly newer that shut the downstream o2 sensor off due to premature CEL for catalyst efficiency.

i have a 3 chamber flowmaster and no converters and im very happy with the sound for a 3.0

X2 I'm from Ontario Canada and I want to go cat-less. I know i can get fake e-tests(thats what we call it here, go figure) but is it worth the hassle? or should I just re-work my exhaust so I can bolt up cats when needed, then take them out and replace them with straight pipe after?

how would it sound with no muffler and cutting off the 2 cats? i cut my exhaust off right before the muffler and i like how it sounds, but would it change much?

ct has retarded strict emissions, my buddy wanted to ditch all his cats and run just two high flow cats and the exhaust shop said the state wont let him touch his cats if his truck was under 80,000 miles, thats gay and sucks because i wanted to do the same thing.

you should put electric cut outs on each down pipe...nothing is cooler than being able to turn your loud exhaust on and off

There's no sense in cutting off your cats. They're not restricting any power and they won't make it any louder. Truth be told, it will probably sound like ***.

Keep your cats, and do the rest of us who like to breathe a favor.

I eliminated all 3 converters from an escape that had them burned up due to a computer problem and the truck ran perfect. It did not sound noticably different than stock unless you were at higher rpm and near wot. It will pass emissions because I used the Evo/Sti spark plug defouler trick.

Who's we? Actually it's called ILLEGAL. "The creation, use or distribution of fraudulent Drive Clean passes is now an offence under the Environmental Protection Act." You really don't want to get caught with a forged e-test record. Not worth the fine over a $35 test every 2 years.

but is it worth the hassle? or should I just re-work my exhaust so I can bolt up cats when needed, then take them out and replace them with straight pipe after?
Why not just keep them where they are. As mentioned by other members the OE cats are NOT restrictive. If you want sound, get a proper muffler and dump it.

You now need to drill out 1 of the non foulers using a 1/2" drill bit. When finished this is what it will look like.

Side by Side comparision of the orignal and now modified non foulers

o2 Sensor inserted in the modified non fouler

Second, unmodified non fouler now installed on modified non fouler

Original non fouler->Modified non fouler->o2 sensor

Fully installed

The idea behind it is when you remove the cat the 2nd o2 sensor is going to have too much crap reaching the sensor that isnt filtered out, which will make it think the cat has gone bad. What this does is it moves the o2 sensor further away so a limited amount of exhaust gets to the o2 sensor, it is a VERY little ammount that actually gets to the sensor but as long as it is considerably less than the primary o2 sensor then it wont cause a CEL.

from (http://www.k-series.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8833) pics rehosted by me incase the thread/pics disappear.

saw a few threads asking how to do it so i found it done w/ pics and decided to pass along the info

I don't see any advantage on most of todays cars unless:

1- You have a big turbo (like me)
2- You have high engine/engine bay temperatures and this is affecting how much timing you can run on a home brewn tune
3- Your cat is already shot due to rich mixtures or poor maintenance
4- You like to experiment with fun fuel and mixtures

Most of you guys don't fall into this category. I did it on the escape due to a coil/ecu failure that put way too much fuel into the converters and cakes them quickly. 1800$ for replacement parts, I took the easy way out (for a friend)

You can always run a high flow cat. I did when I installed my supercharger on my SVT Focus. It's not obnoxiously loud like an off road pipe.

The offroad pipe I have on my Evo isnt that bad unless I'm in boost, but then again turbos keep the sound down some.
