Probably running lean at WOT. If it keeps up you'll get a CEL.

There's two possibilities.

1. Somehow you damaged the little wires in there. Doesn't sound likely since it runs okay at lower throttle.

2. It needs some "streamlining".

Try this: the flat "floor" under the "tunnel" has a fairly blunt leading edge after you cut the MAF. Take a very small file or some sandpaper and carefully thin that floor down and make the leading edge sharp.

This has helped on MAF mods, especially 4.0 mods, but my 3.0 benefitted from it also. I've posted on this, but never updated my mod page.

Most folks don't need it, but it sounds like you do.

Do you have the plastic or metal tube sensor? If you have the metal, this might not apply and then I can't help you -- I've never done a metal one. But clean up any rough areas that could be causing turbulence anyway.

Are you guys porting the MAF??

Unless you have someway to adjust the transfer function you're just messing things up.

Typically not bad on the 3.0 -- well within the O2 correction.

On mine I'm using an SCT Xcalibrator and Extreme Tune software to fix my transfer function. Though it's not unacceptably far off without that.

We've been doing this for years on 3.0's with almost no bad results. This is atypical what he is experiencing is is usually more pronounced with the 4.0 to the point where it's not worth doing.

It was running so bad this morning i barly got to work.. I went to the local junk yard and picked up a new maf body runs like new.. Dunno what i could have done wrong. Maybe when i cut it off i left the back plate on but cut in half. Are u supposed to remove that metal plate held on by rivets. By the way its the metal one and my sensor is fine. I tried some electric cleaner didnt help any.

I hear some people talking about cleaning your MAF. How do you clean it and with what?

Unplug the MAF. Two torx screws fasten the MAF to the housing. Remove these, carefully pull the MAF out of the housing and spray the little wires with MAF or electrical cleaner. Don't touch the wires or try to wipe them off, you might damage the wires, just let it air dry. Doesn't take long, MAF cleaner evaporates really quickly. Re-install.

K&N filters have a nasty habit of getting the oil you have to put on them on the MAF wire sensors. Gums them up and makes for a very interesting ride! Just like any other maintinence you do, if you have the K&N filter you need to add this to your regimen. Only takes five minutes, so no big deal.
