Cherry Bomb, yea or nea?

crap....i just recently took my glasspack off and am running it dumped after the cat converter....(now that sounds like poo....but i only did it because im getting duals real soon and thought id have some fun). i can take pics of the setup still...but its not connected to my truck, but its still connected to all the piping in all that.

wtpbmx, you had a glass pack on ur truck correct? well what set up did you run, like how did you set up, and what size did you get? and what glasspack would you reccomend, cherrybomb or flowtech or what.
b/c what im thinking of doing is just cut down my old muffler nicely(so when i sell it i could put the stock muffler back on it if i need to)then slide the new glass pack in there. and then put a new tip on.
thanks

LOL @ the videos... The guy tries to be badass and break it loose while in water and fails, he then tries to do a power slide of some sort and barely breaks the tires loose haha.
Anyway I cant tell you what it sounds like, the guy is trying to show off more then actually let you hear the sound of the bomb.

um.....i think u saw the video of the guy with the red 99 ranger, i only took one of mine and i was in park, but anyway......
ya. franger, ur idea right there is exactly what i did if i underrstood correctly. i bought a 30 7/16 inch one at kragen for $30, it was a cherry-bomb, i bought the cherrybomb because i heard they were the loudest, and yes, its pretty loud, but good loud, not ricey at all as long as its not dumped right after the muffler.
what i did was i took a sawzall as close as possible to both sides of my stock muffler, and made clean cuts just incase i decided to put the stock one back on. after the stock muffler was off, the cherrybomb was an inch or two too short to connect both the inlet and outlet to the stock piping, so i picked up about 10 different muffler adapters at kragen to make it reach(cant remember the size of the adapters, but it took a total of 3, (2 on the outlet of the muffler and one on the inlet.) the stock piping on my truck was 2 1/4'' for both inlet and outlet and the muffler was 2'', (atleast im 99% positive, it was a few months ago). anyway, i put together the right combination of adapters and simply clamped it on with muffler clamps.
it sounded great and i got lots of compliments in the school parking lot, until one night i got curious to find out what it would sound like if i dumped the piping after the muffler.............it sounded like a 4-banger honda civic.......so i highly recommend having atleast 3 feet of piping after the glasspack, it gives it the mellow gargling sound everyone likes.
right now im running my truck with no muffler and dumped at the cat, its loud and sounds like poo, but im close to buying dual exhaust with 2 cherrybombs from the local muffler shop, so im just gonna be lazy and leave my muffler off until then.
just 3 major points i recommend...
1. buy the longest glasspack you can for the mellow tone....
2. buy every muffler adapter and clamp you think u might just possibly need, and return the ones you dont use, to prevent making 20 trips to kragen.
3. DON'T dump it right after the muffler, that extra piping after the muffler makes a huge difference in sound....kinda wierd, but it does.

no problem....i would've put pics up, but they look more confusing than useful because i took off everything off and the whole setup is laying on the garage floor right now. i should've kept it on because a 3.0L with no muffler or piping sounds like a civic on steriods.
Edit: i almost forgot to mention. ur stock muffler is supported by a hanger. u might want to try and save as much off the rubber hanger as possible when u remove the muffler so u can hang the glasspack from it. i just used that cheap pipe hanging tape and looped it around like a belt under the glasspack and through the rubber hanger. just make sure u get the glasspack supported so it doesnt sag.

great guy eric.today jus went down to napa auto parts, ordered a glass pack exhaust, im not sure what kind it is though. it came to about 46 bucks, with 2 clamps, i am going to get it after school tomorrow.
my muffler looks weird, i dont know about yours, but my muffler doesnt even have any visible clamps on it, its just like a big shell, (idk if its the muffler or a protector) b/c i dont see any visible pipe clamps. so im kinda lost as to wherei should cut it.
thanks

eric why yes it does look like that, except it doesnt have that shield thing on the bottom.. you cant really see the pipe enter the muffler itsself, its weird?
well i got the glasspack today, its red, and its called a thrush. 2"in 2"out, its 25" long.
when my stock muffler is roughly about 22" long.
for sh**s and giggles i went outside and was attempting to put the glasspack up against my tail pipe, but it wouldnt fit, it wouldnt slide in the pipe or over it.(when i attach to its correct place is the inlet and outlet supposed to be over the pipings or in the piping?)
any suggestions on how to set this thing up?
p.s it was soo cold here today, they canceled school.. and to make it even better it was my birthday.
thanks

happy birthday! lol, i dont even know what cold is here in california :)
ya, ford made their muffler really wierd on rangers, the pipe is welded onto the muffler so you'll have to cut it off with a sawzall or something. u should try and make the cuts as close as you can to the muffler. its good that ur glasspack is longer than the stock muffler, it can go either way with the glasspack, you can have the piping slide in over, or into the glasspack. i'm not sure of the diameter of the piping on ur 99 ranger, but if the glasspack doesnt fit, u just need to use those little pipe adaapters u can get at any autopart store. and a few clamps. like i said before, i recommend buying a lot more clamps and adapters than u'll need and in various sizes so you wont have to make a lot of trips to the store. if the glasspack wont go in or over the piping, that means u have 2'' piping on your truck so u'll need slightly bigger adapters that will slide over both the piping and the glasspacks inlet/outlet, and then the correct size clamps.
also, the tailpipe on my ranger widens at the end by 1/4'' , u might want to check to see if urs does the same, if it does then u shouldnt need any adapters, the glasspack should slide right onto the piping in the area of the old muffler and clamp on.

eric, your a great guy. i appreciate you guiding me through all of this, and yes i did look at my tail pipe and it does widen by a little bit at the end. im real glad too, b/c i didnt want to have to get those adapters simply b/c there is more of a chance of an exhaust leak. im gonna wait till monday and do it in school(auto tech high school)so i have a lift, i think a lift would help a little bit.
i appreciate everything.
p.s any chance you live in fairfield connecticut?
