major problem

big problem. today i was filling the coolant system with the truck running because i just changened my exploed tsat. as i was opening a new bottle of coolant to put in the resvoir my starter started. so my friend turns the truck off and the starter is still engaged.

So we pulled the main fuse to make it stop. 5 mins later there is elctrical smoke coming out of the vents above the radio. so i panic and yank (brake) the bezel off. i see nothing but smoke. so i eneded up cutting the positve sde off the battery.

so my frind and I are trying to think off what made the problem. Both him and i beleive its my alarm/remote start system. So i pull the brain of it out and reconnect the battery, now the battery light is on. it turns off as soon as i turn the key on. the truck runs fine but when i turn it off the battery light comes on.

So what caused the starter to act up and what is making the battery light stay on?

Aftermarket alarm system - the installer may have nicked/cut a wire and not tied it up so that it shorted to an adjacent wire or ground.
