Engine/Fan gets REALLY LOUD.

I can be idling around 800-900 rpms and there be no problem.

but when I start with acceleration the sounds gets REALLY loud.

almost like fan or engine is going up to 5k rpms.

power is robbed like if im a gear or two too high.. and mpgs are loww.

its happened before but just after a day or so it goes away.

i had hammered it over the viaduct wed afternoon. and it stopped for a few hours.

now its back.

nothing major caused it just the normal backroads driving the other night..

thoughts?

Yup. You are lucky to have yours go out....gives you an excuse!! I'm waiting for mine to die so I can do the swap. Not sure how to wire it up though, need to check out some how-tos.

Taurus fans are the best from the JY but if you want new this is the one beard used on his 4.0:

No it's really easy. You will need to rent the ford fan clutch tool. $6 at Autozone.

1. no fan clutch wrench.
2. no belt tensioner.
3. fan shroud is 1 full piece.
4. bolts i THINK i need to remove are on the inside of the pulley which isnt enough clearance for my hand + wrench in between the fan and pulley to remove them.

thoughts? im just takn a food break atm. (jacks pizza yummm)

how do i hold the pulley still while using channel lock to take off the clutch?

The belt tensioner can be released with a normal 3/4 inch sock wrench.

Good luck without a ford fan clutch tool, I heard it's a b*tch and a half without it.

Spent 5 hrs getting no where on a project said to take an hr. All i got was busted up knuckles for no reason. So i put it all back together and went to the normal mechanic my father goes to and turns out he went on vaca. But right now maybe i had loosened up the clutch enough because it isnt making the noise so itl wait becauuse its 100 deg right now. And the only thing to do when its 100 is to fish and drink some beer and thats what im going to do.

Advanced auto didnt have a clutch wrench small enough.
The bolt is a 15mm but our only 15mm sockets are too tall. And our huge set of wrenches goes 14
Mm to 17mm no 15mm wrench. And not about to go buy a new set for a 15mm.
And advanced auto didnt have any belt tensioners to rent either. And not goin to pay $30 for the use of it 1 time.

Welp Finally got up and changed it out with my father today..

Went to menards and bought a big *** channel lock/ cresent wrench.

And a diff depth of a 10 mm socket. put the socket on the pulley bolt. and the wrench on the clutch.

got the clutch loosened up. took it off replaced it with new fan clutch.. went back to advanced bought a new serpentine belt and threw it on while fan n shroud were off. ( old belt was split up in 3 places all the way through)

now powers regained and doesn't sounds so loud!

thank gosh! now i don't look retarded driving around lol.

thanks for everyones input!
