Crank but no start

Crank but no start

hey guys,
Rescently i have been working on my dad's 04 and did head gaskets, can sync, and all the normal rebuild stuff. got the engine back in and everything together and now it wont start.
I checked timing, fuel, and spark multiple times and still havent found the problem . Maybe its and ecm problem?
Any ideas would be very helpfull.

compression is good 160 on all 3 pistons driver side and 168, 170, and 171 on the passenger side.

new symptom it seems like when cranking the engine partially fires or something and stops the cranking for a second then keeps cranking and partially fires over and over.
with the coil pack unplugged the engine cranks normally.

It sounds like you have some plug wires crossed. Can you see the cylinder numbers on the coilpack? I'll try and dig up a photo for you.

Yes sorry haven't had a chance to get on but takeda you are right. The chilton manual i have for my ranger apparently has the wrong order posted. The truck is starting now although i think the starter is not disengaging.
