**EGR flow Excessive**

ok so my CEL went on again... got it read and its the same thing as it was before i changed my dpfe sensor.....

after i changed the sensor i havent had the light come untill now, about 2-3 months. I told the guy that read my code and he said it shouldnt have gone bad that fast, so he told me to take the egr off, and check to see if the selaniod is stuck open with carbon build up...

firstly, does this seem like a valid explination? and secondly, if it is, where is the egr? i looked at that worthless vacuum line map that would even stump phd mechanics...

It MIGHT be several things but odds are in favor of the DPFE or the hoses going to it. Give the hoses an inspection for cracks, etc. Then, take the DPFE off and see if water has condensed inside. Try drying it and reinstalling it.

If the EGR or the EGR Vacuum Regulator solenoid were stuck open, the truck would idle poorly or not at all.

Try this it worked for me, a friend of mine told me to do it and hes going to school to be a ford mechanic. Take some carb and chock cleaner and spray it into your egr lines. To do this you have to take off your throttle body and then there is 2 holes right inside the opening, one on the right and one on the left. The one on the right is a staight shot in but the one on the left is on like a little ledge and it goes straight down so kind of hard to get the carb and choke cleaner in it. And I also pulled the 2 lines going into the dpfe sensor and sprayed some carb and choke cleaner in there to. I did it a couple of weeks ago and my light hasnt come back on yet.

Don't try to disassemble it. Just let it dry out with the hoses off.

Just to give some people hope I did replace the DPFE sensor and it
seems to have solved the problem. They are made of plastic now but-
it was $106 at the dealers. Its only been a couple weeks but my AIMS
inspection was today so I'm good for 2 years. The CEL only came on
at high revs and really didn't affect the running of the engine.
I got on the interstate to warm it up and directly to the testing
.station. After reading some of the horror stories here I consider this my
lucky day. This forum saved me a few $$ so my thanks to you all.

oh and go to autozone next time, theyre like 55$ out the door for one...

When a hydrocarbon fuel like gasoline or alcohol burns, one of the major products of combustion is H2O. Unless you run the engine 24/7/365, there's no way you're going to keep water from condensing in the EGR system. The DPFE should be able to handle it but ....

ok so this transmission shop was advertising free diagnostics with a coupon, so i took advantage of it, and its my dpfe sensor again... they wouldnt go into detail about it beacuse they would charge me, but it failed or something...

what i dont get is its been 3 months/ maybe 2000 miles since i got this one and its already dead with water inside, so wtf could be screwing with it?

This is odd My check engine came on for egr issues about a year ago and with e check coming up I had to do something so I put a new egr valve on my on truck sunday night monday night I got onto the highway and opened her up to about 75 and cel came back on so I got a dpfe sensor which was $50 from autozone hooked it up cleared the code havent had an issue since I have heard if you have a egr problem might as well replace the egr and dpfe sensor at the same time now its only been 2 days since I replaced the dpfe sensor and almost 4 on the egr but with both changed it seems fine and I passed my e check with no issue. Jeff did you change you egr valve or no? If so Im guessing if its the stock one replace it. The egr valve being bad and the dpfe both throw the same code like 401 insuffient flow.

Also Im guessing you did not change your egr since you dont know where tis at its on the driver side by the intake it a aluminum saucer looking thing about the size of your fist closed. Its takes loosing the main bolt and 2 other bolts and unplug the vaccum line and its off make sure you scrape off the old gasket with a razor if it sticks and the new egr should come with a new gasket Mine did from autozone it was like $50
