Hard starting when engine is warm
I have a 98 ranger 3.0L XLT 4x4.
I've had the truck about 6 months and ever since it has had hard starting problems. The engine starts just fine after it has been sitting for over 8 hours, OR if I just turned it off less than 15 minutes. Anywhere in between the 15 mins and 8 hours, the engine takes a good extra 10 seconds to start with a rough idle after it does start. I also smell fuel when during the hard start so I am ruling out a fuel pump. when the engine is cold it starts just fine and idles just fine. Starts just fine when cold so I'm ruling out the ignition coil as well.
i have changed the cam shaft position sensor, the ect sensor, all spark plugs and cables. I've cleaned the EGR valve, mass air flow sensor, and the throttle body. Yet no codes come up on the scanner.

Try Clear Flooded Engine routine for warm starts to see if it makes a difference
Turn on key
Press gas pedal down to the floor all the way and hold it down>>>you are now in Clear Flooded Engine mode, computer shuts OFF fuel injector pulses but Spark is ON
Crank engine, it should NOT fire or start, if it does then fuel is present, it has leaked in when engine was off
Release gas pedal after 5 seconds or so and see if engine starts and runs smoother, like cold start
If engine fires or RPMs get above 400 computer will exit Clear Flooded engine
If you release gas pedal computer will exit Clear Flooded engine
The IAC(idle air control) Valve should open all the way for startup, cold or warm, thats why any fuel injected engine should REV on startup without driver touching the gas pedal
Computer then closes IAC valve to set correct idle for coolant temp, approx. 1,100 cold, 750warm
If IAC valve is not opening all the way then warm engine will "flood out" on startup, computer adds extra fuel for startup based on IAC valve being open all the way, the REV you get on startup
Cold engines need more fuel so hard to flood them out, so this would only effect warm starts.
You can pull off the IAC valve, 2 bolts, and then turn on the key to see if it is opening all the way, unplug its 2 wires and it should close all the way, plug wires back in and it should open all the way, repeat as you see fit to make sure it is working as it should
