Timing Cover leak ?'s

I have the notorious timing cover leak on my 3.0l but after just putting my trans in can't afford to fix it right away need to get the cash flow back up a bit. I don't like doing any project halfway so i want to do timing chain and gears since I'm already there and new water pump since its never been replaced so my question is has anyone ever tried drying the leak and using a bit of rtv to seal it and buy some time i just need to squeeze a few more weeks out of it while i order up all the parts any input is appreciated its not a huge leak just leaves a small puddle overnight and i only use maybe a 1/4 of a gallon of coolant in a months time so since its winter I'm just keeping it topped off and its not running hot so I'm not to worried about it just yet thanks for any input.
