Unfortunately my truck did not come with a users manual and the CHiltons i have doesnt have a list of what all the relays and fuses control. Heres my problem. I took out my instrument cluster to replace the bulbs, two were out and it was getting hard to read the numbers. I put it back together, tested it, and they all worked. I finished putting everything together, and got ready to go to work. To my surprise my instruments didnt light up. My headlights work, and my brake lights work, as well as turn signals, reverse, and hazards, dome light, CD player (aftermarket), but i have no amber lights or no taillights when i turn the **** to the parking or headlight position. I tore everything back apart to see if i cut a wire somehow, but they were fine. Im thinking it may be a fuse or relay under the hood, i checked all the fuses in the panel and they were fine, but i dont konw what they all control either because i dont have a label. Can someone help me out? Maybe give me a link to where i could find the info needed, or perhaps scan their user manual's page that has them listed and e-mail it to me? It would be much appriciated!!!

Check to see if the connectors are plugged in correctly at the H/L switch and dimming module. It's easy to forget those when reassembling the cluster bezel.

That usually does it. Quite common when you start pulling the dash apart.

 

UPDATE: I figured out that a fuse had blown under the hood, a 15amp fuse located near the front of the box. Now the problem is that every time i put in a new fuse it blows too, when i click the switch to either of the two light settings, with or without the key in the igniton, even with the dimmer set at the lowest setting. Any ideas??

 

Not believing in coincidences, I would guess that your current problem is related to the recent work on the cluster. And the most likely problem is a short to ground. Carefully disassemble what you've worked on and look for pinched or bare wires. The replacement bulbs used in the cluster should have been 194 or 194LL.

 

UPDATE: Problem solved. It turns out that when i pulled the CD player ect., a wire for the cdplayer dimmer was touching something metal when i pushed everything back in and shorting out the circuit. I didnt even think about it because i dont use the CD player dimmer. I taped off the wire and made sure they didnt touch anything. Works like a charm! Anyways, all in all a real pain in the butt, im glad i didnt buy a new inst. panel dimmer switch from ford ($65)... but if anyone needs one, i have one with 23K miles on it from the boneyard out of an 02 4.0 XLT. ( nice truck too, im going to go back and part that baby out!) THanks for all the help and replys, just goes to show you that it could be something so obscure. DOUBLE CHECK ALL WORK!!!
