Optimal cruising rpm?

Im starting to take the highway more often to and from school and was wondering what the optimal cruising rpm would be to get the best mpg outta my truck?

Every ford truck i've driven has gotten the best MPG at 55mph. Which may be a problem when the speed limit is 60.

How with 4.10's and bigger tires are you at such a low rpm at 65? I have 3.73 and stock tires and im doing about 2250-2300 at 65.

i'm going to drive with my gps to work tomorrow, see what i'm running at 65mph, 2000 seems low to me... i also have 4.10's and 33's

i know i pass everyone on the hiway when i'm doing 100 on the spedo (about 63) and traffic normally moves around 100-120km/h

Glad i'm not the only one who thinks 2000 is too low.

I cant say what my rpm's are at, but a good cruising speed is about 80mph on the interstate.

not sure how much of a difference it makes, but I have stock gearing with over sized tires.
as far as mpg, I can not say for certain and I dont have a tach so I have no way of reading rpm.

I too am right there. 3.0 with 235/75/15's is getting me around 22 mpg - mostly highway driving at 70mph/2500rpm

ummm, you don't realize, larger tires will throw your speedo out, so if you changed your tires, without changing the speedo gear, you are doing faster than your speedo says... i was driving to work tonight, didn't have my GPS, but i was around 65 mph, and just over 2000 rpm (this speed is based on the speedo of a car directly infront of mine [talking to my dad on the phone])
