3.0 is not a fast engine and has horrible gas mileage.

I have a 03 3.0 lifted on 35's auto regeared 4.56 straight piped, my mileage SUCKS! haha drive my truck and yours will feel like a lil speed demon. There isn't much you can do about it.

Take into effect it is winter. It takes more gas to heat up the trucks, hence bad gas mileage. I know in winter my mileage drops to 12 mpg.

I keep reading this, my truck pulls the Arizona mountains in 5th and gets a constant 23 mpg. What are you doing wrong with your truck? oh yea 35s, auto and I bet you lead foot it. Your truck gets horrible gas mileage.

23 to 24 with 32's so 12mpg there is some thing wrong

tune up fuel filter change and o2 sensors would be my 1st steps on why your only getting 12 mpg

OK,a 13 year old truck ,How many miles on it?
What did the plugs look like when you changed them out?
What exactly was the code # you pulled that said O2 rich?

By what you've posted so far I would guess an injector stuck open.Get a mechanics stethoscope and probe the injectors.

Yes I know my truck does. I like it though, and I dont complain about it.

But if you search this forum, you will see that I am not the only one because of modifications that has this problem. Many people with the 3.0 have the bad gas mileage.

The 3.0 is a strong engine I will definetly say that. I had my truck packed full in the bed and towed a RXP seadoo and a SXR jetski on a double trailer on a 3 hour drive it did a hell of a job! It just isn't that quick, I don't mean with 35's I mean stock its not super fast.

ok for everyone saying the 3.0L is horrible on gas I can still use a lead foot in winter and get 16 mpg. I don't care what you say 12mpg is horrible and there is something wrong. Now try changing your fuel filter and 02 sensors as you've done a tune up already.

Just what I was about to say. Check your fuel filter, it could be clogged, also check the fuel pump assembly, mine crapped out on me a couple times, and it made the truck a DOG. Just make sure you get the special fuel line disconnect tool, and spend the money for the good one, so you dont get pissed and break the fuel line.

+1 fuel filter.
I'd do O2's if they are older than 50K, regardless.

and today a alright gusts of wind on the freeway and im doing 65 and kinda hard to stay there. ive only done 75 or more with a very heavy wind behind me.

my uncle has some kind of scanner that tell real time stats like the maf volatge as its running all with in range, its made bye mac tools.
but it says o2 rich but well with in range. and he has tool that checks the o2 sensor and they both check out ok

i have 130,000, 4x4

the plugs looked good but changed anyway

no code on o2 sensors just a real time graph

only codes stored on the comp where low coolant, and pcv valve or canister

If the injector is stuck open the engine should have a bad miss with to much fuel in that cyl. It should not be to hard to find that cyl. by looking at the plug. It should show on the engine codes.

This may sound stupid to some people. But I had same problem and channged all you did.So when changing my oil,I put Lucas Heavy Duty Oil treatment in.Results were unbelievable. After it is in ,each day you drive ,you will feel power come back,as this stuff lubes up your engine.Going up hills at 75 into wind will be no problem again.

^^People used to say the same thing about Marvel Mystery oil.No doubt it worked in some vehicles.

Could Jason's problem be the sign of a cam syncronizer going bad ? Gear wear throwing it off time maybe ?

i will change oil and try lucas treatment. i was thinking of buying one o2 sensor and then checking with the scanner and see if say any different and if it does then buy the second. as they both check out good but who knows.
but have to wait for check about a week.

OTRtech, going back and reading his first post you may be on to the problem. Is the gear that runs on the cam nylon or plastic or is it metal?

Remove the cam position sensor and try to turn the vane back and forth with your fingers. There should be little to no play.

How many miles on this engine?
Has the timing chain ever been replaced?
If you remove the distributor cap , can you turn the rotor back and forth very far?
