I went to the dyno today.......

First off, I recieved permission to post this outside of the vendor forum (thanks C).

I went to the dyno today to test my underdog pulley. I tested on a 2002 Ranger Automatic with 50,000 miles. I just changed the oil a few weeks ago with full synthetic 10w30. I changed the plugs today before going with oem motorcraft plugs. That is it. No intake, exhaust, etc in this truck. It is all stock and has a hard life towing granite everyday.

Base line was 122.5 HP and 143.5 Torq
After the underdog pulley it was 130.9 HP and 154.6 Torque.

That is a gain of 8 HP and 11 Torq. I had guessed 5-7 so I was pleased. I get numerous e-mails and PM's that ask this question so I finally got it done.

A special Thanks to Maxwell Dodge SuperStore in Austin, TX. They allowed me to change the pulley with the truck strapped down so I didn't have to pay for 2 separate dyno sessions. It is a dyno Jet.

i am working on scanning the dyno sheet in so I should have more info later.

Thanks.

I recorded a run, just don't know how to post it. Nothing fab about it considering no exhaust on it.

The cool thing was the dyno guy said he could feel the difference in the runs. I have to go to the track to "see" a difference. I can't feel diddly. Even though he works at Dodge (where the dyno is), it turns out he has a 4.0 Sport Trac. I think I sold my frst 4.0 pulley when they become available.

Impressive! Think we can expect the same sort of gain from a 4.0 pully?

Does the 3.0 pulley make any noticable difference in the accessories? Like the A/C or anything?

Have you noticed anything that you dont like about it? The only thing that I read that has any kind of negative effect is that the alternator may not charge if you are just idling at a light since the speed the belt spins at is too low. Not sure if thats true tho.

I dyno'd because this is what I got asked all the time. "how does it work, how much power, how much mpg savings". The underdog pulley is so much lighter than the dzk pulley that it should perform better and I needed to prove it. The second most common question is yours. I have not had anyone say they had issues with my pulley and charging. It charges at 850 RPM. Below that you don't get a full charge. It will not leave you stranded, I would suspect that your headlights would dim with too much of a load while idling. I do not see a problem at cruising speeds.

If you want to buy one, I would offer you a buy back guarantee and this issue would be settled once and for all.

The 4.0 is Better. The 4.0 Pulley has already been dynoed on a 4.0 Mustang and it got 12 and 16! The downside is it will be in the $280 range since it has a built in harmonic balancer. The 3.0 pulley is just an outstanding value the the price per HP.

They are on daily drivers, show cars, work trucks, trucks that tow, etc. Besides Underdog Performance, I have a granite shop. The first Underdog Pulley went on my delivery truck. It has hauled granite on a trailer in Texas EVERYDAY for the past several months. The a/c is of course run full blast while towing and no issues have shown up.

One customer I installed an UnderDog Pulley for thought the power steering worked better. He thought it was "overcharging" before because it squeeled all the time. I cannot confirm or deny this, just passing the info on.

It's close enough that I will start taking orders (money) after this weekend. Mid November is what they are saying and it was reconfirmed this past week. I wanted to make sure I could guarantee a delivery date in a reasonable amount of time. I think credit cards have a 60 day deadline for filing a claim. We are well within that timeframe so I am comfortable with it knowing you guys have a fallback position if I fall from the Earth. They are not anticipating a major "rush", but with the number of 4.0 Mustangs out there it may become an issue.

Already taken care of. The newer ones I have installed (2002,2003) have been a little more difficult than like a 99. 30 Minutes to an hour should be all it takes. Look here:

No. That's the great thing. It doesn't "growl" like an intake. It doesn't do anything except free up HP. Your truck will feel like it just got a tuneup. It's like mowing grass that's 12" tall, then mowing grass that is 4" tall. You cut through it easier. The only issue besides what was mentioned is it will work in a negative manner with a supercharger. Since it slows your accessories, it will slow the charger down. Less boost. No problem with nitrous or turbo chargers.

12 hp for $280 isn't bad. Do you know if there will be a group buy discount?

It will probably be higher at some point. Guys like summit will have it for $289 + their usual $8.95 shipping/handling fee. There is very little play in the pricing on this one. The better deals will be people who sell their mustang or Ranger and start pulling off their mods and selling them.

true, that's the price of an FIPKII and you get more out of it from what I can tell. My carputer is still my #1 priority though
