4r44e 2wd shift problems.

Has anyone had this problem on their 4R44E 2wd automatic transmission: (2000 3.0 v6 188k miles) my truck shifts rough into second and third gear after my truck gets hot. (Usually shifts fine right after it’s started and doesn’t shift rough everytime after it’s hot either.) Third gear gets more of a rev up (right around .5 to 1 second in neutral before the gear engages sometimes) when it slips. I got my tranny fluid and filter serviced only about 2500 miles ago and it’s already dirty (looks like it’s slightly burnt almost the color of light chocolate milk with a slight pinkish red tint to it.) is this normal for the fluid to get this color this fast in a vehicle with 188k miles on it? And also what could be causing the rough gear changes besides the fluid? (The problem existed before the service but got worse pretty fast right after but now seems to be about the same all the time) I already got my shifter adjusted but the problems still there. Transmission guy at the shop I took it to said if it slips when it’s hot then I’m gonna need a rebuild on the tranny. One more side note also. Took it to a regular shop that didn’t do trannys at all that said their obd system said I had 2 misfiring cylinders and an internal tranny problem so I replaced my Crank PS and drove it to Mississippi and back (about 18 hours total) and when I was in Mississippi I had auto zone run their obd scanner and no codes showed up for the cylinders or tranny but shift problem still exists. Anybody know what might be going on with my tranny? Thanks!

188k is a good life for that trans, when the trans oil turns your color its time for rebuild, pull out your dipstick and smell the oil does it stink. slippage is a sign of friction plates worn that's why you may have the burnt oil color..... rear band adjustment two turns out, but it might be too late....

Thanks for the info. Would getting my fluid flushed help with the slipping a little bit for the time being and give me a little longer life on the tranny?

I doubt it ....your clean oil will end up up like it is now in very short time.. your going to waste over $100 in trans oil plus the flush cost.... and the gasket and filter

Not a good idea to ever change fluid on a slipping trans. It may never work again. You may drain some fluid out & put a quart of lucas trans fix in it & get a bit more life from it. But the only real fix is a rebuild.
