The check engine light was on in my truck - DTC code P0340 - Camshaft position sensor/synchronizer. I bought a Dorman Sensor and synchronizer assy. that came with the alignment tool, but after reading about the very high failure rate I decided to purchase a synchronizer and sensor from Ford and installed it per the haynes manual. Check engine light did not come back after 75 miles and so I had it smogged.

The truck failed on HC and NO at 15mph. HC at 25mph squeaked by at the exact maximum.

15MPH HC - (MAX 54) (AVE 8) (MEAS 187)
15mph NO - (MAX 527) (AVE 82) (MEAS 584)

Part that bothers me is this:

THIS VEHICLE FAILED THE MIL/CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DUE TO FAILURE TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE ALL OBD SELF TESTS

Anybody have any ideas on where to start?

 

After clearing the codes , the truck has to be run a minimum of 100 miles at varying speeds for the complete self tests to run.You don't have to drive those miles all at once.25 a day and make sure the engine is at operating temp before shutting it off each time will work.
