idea for a 04 3.0L cold air intake
i have searched since the day i bought my truck for an cold air intake for my 2004 ranger with out any luck so i have any idea to get a cold air intake for an earlier year and get a mass air flow sensor as well from an earlier since for decide to mold them in the top of the air box lid. but my question is will it work are the mass air flow sensors from earlier years able to work with the 04 or not. any input as to if it would work or not will be great before i got out and spend money on something that doesnt

I wouldn't bet on a previous years MAF working. The change may have, and probably did, dramatically alter the calibration. The differences are probably coded into the PCM.
I don't know this for sure, so experiment at will -- but MAF's are funny things sometimes as we've found. Some mods work just fine all the time -- others are unreliable: one may work great, another have a problem with being too far off for the PCM to compensate.
I just wouldn't spend a lot of money on the idea without testing it first.

Well, if you luck into an older stock intake system to try out, it's something to think about. But you should put a scantool on it to see where the fuel trim goes from idle to full throttle. I had a problem where I did a MAF for Doc and it caused a severe lean problem at open throttle and could have been a problem if left unresolved. Fortunately he got a CEL light and brought it back to me the next day.
