3.0 ranger stutters at higher rpm's

Hey everyone, new to the site here.

I have an 01 ranger with 230,000 km's. Trucks been pretty bulletproof so far. Recently had some problems though.

Did the plugs/fuel filter/air filters then finally cam position sensor to resolve most of my problem with the motor cutting out.

Now it's been pretty good, but still occasionally cuts out at higher rpm's 3.5k+

I'm thinking I should clean the injectors, and part of me wants to check the timing chain tension.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.

When you put the plugs in what kind did you use? Also did you gap them yourself? Some places say that plugs are pregapped which is BS. You should always make sure they are gapped right.

Well I took an existing plug out and took it to the auto parts store. Didn't even bother to look at the print on it.

Plugs are all gapped to .044

Its funny that the cam sensor only solved about 90% of the trouble.

You could try some seafoam. 1/2 in the vacuum lines, half in a tank.

Ok, maybe I'll give that a go.

In the meanwhile I got a code po401 for insufficient EGR flow.

Cleaned the EGR tubes and took it for a 20 min run. Was great at first then after 10min it started acting up again. Feels like the motor cuts out, I can't tell if its fuel or spark, or some other sensor. But it feels just like the camshaft position sensor failure. Just not nearly as bad.

All of this happened within 3-4 days of each other, really strange how its only at 3.5k maybe 4k. Then it continues to pull after that.

Thanks for the help so far.

Does it happen when free reving? If it does try removing your serpentine belt and do it. Of course don't let the engine warm up too much because the water pump isn't running.
