remove the belt and start it. if you still here it, it is the cam synchro...only let it run abotu 30 seconds without the belt on. or listen if it is coming from the rear of the engine by the coil pack

Chances are it's your belt. Swap whatever you have now with a Goodyear Gatorback belt.

The Gatorback belt is your cheapest and easiest fix. If it still does it, don't be alarmed......at least you have a much better belt. Replace the tension pulley and see if that fixes it. If not move down to the idler pulley. Most Ranger owners have replaced all 3 of these items.

wow lol

are you serious? whats gonna happen to him if he runs it without the belt? is it gonna explode? no...i do it all the time at work AT A FORD DEALERSHIP where i am a tech...dont turn the steering wheel or run it for long periods of time but you can remove the belt and run it. if the squeak is gone, spin all the pulleys individually and see if one is making noise or if the belt is to blame

i got a cricket chirp under the hood full time now, it only would do it after a car wash for a little while but for a while now the chirp is a full time annoyance on my 2008. i figure it would just be the belt so i never did anything but since it can be a bunch of things i might as well take it to ford and let my warranty solve the issue. ill take it in tomorrow evening and ill report what they discovered was the issue
