Flooded it

I tried searching and found other threads but they all had different outcomes. I've got my 92 3.0 here and I was riding in the rain and came to a big puddle and went through it. No prob. Came back an hour later to do it again, but this time it was much deeper and it died instantly. So I push it out and start it up after about 10 minutes of trying, and it is a rough idle with a very loud knock. I have got many opinions on what it could be. When I accelerate, no knock. When the rpms drop, the knock is there. Basically, I want some ideas on what it could be, and how much repairs might run me so I can start saving. Thanks for any help

You didn't flood the motor, you hydro-locked it. Liquid/Water is not compressible, take a engine that is used to compressing air (easily done), and spinning at say...3,000rpm, and pour water in it. Cylinders with water will be forced to try and compress it by the combustion in the other cylinders...since it won't compress, things break.

You probably have "rod-knock" (bent rod, or two or three) and it will condemn your engine as bad/broken/dying/no good. Start lookin for another..

Sounds like you need a new engine! Swap in a 5.0 from an Explorer! In any case, a knock in an engine will generally condemn it. It can probably be rebuilt and repaired, but you can get a used engine for cheaper.

you have to put a snorkel on it for the intake so the motor can get air, seal all the electronics, take out all the carpet and fabrics, and extend all the breather tubes up with the snorkel. Im probably forgetting a couple things also.
