Icon4 need advice please

My gas milage sucks im getting 167 miles from a full tank.

I do this to find out my milage. 17(fuel) divded by 167 (miles travel) = blank

I got fuel at 170 so that divded by 17= 10

I have a 95 ranger 3.0 auto 4wd with 160787 on the odom.

My questions ar

1. I have a exaust manifold leak on the driver sidits a small leak my shop guy told me would the unequal pressure contribute to the poor mpg?

2. The reaon why the gasket hasnt been replaced is because the thread and nut are heavly rusted and they would snap before they would turn and would require the motor to come out and to have the holes retaped.

The tranny is slippin at 30 and 60 mph I changed the fluid and new fliter and put some lucas tranny stuff in their to help with the slippage but even under light acceration I can still fill the slip.

Would it make more sense to pull a motor and tranny from a junk yard to fix this problem?

My mechainx said it would be about a grand to pull the motor and retap.

If I pulled a motor and tranny my self what years should I look for?

at my local junk yard a motor is $189 and a tranny is $90

----------

Than you very much guys and gals for reading and trying to help me with this issiue.

Try this thread on adjusting the tranny bands before throwing money at it.

I have the same truck with about the same mileage. I had my tranny rebuilt at a shop at 100k. It is still good at 164k. It was getting a slip Bang. It cost about $1200. My mpg has never been great, but did this happen for one tank, or is it happening regularly?
