I believe all the air boxes are the same but I'm not sure.

Yes. It is the same filter if using a stock replacement. The guy at autozone showed the ones for the 3.0 and 4.0 and I didn't see a difference in them and that was a side by side comparison. The only difference you'll see between the 3.0 and 4.0 is when you remove your intake hose. They use a different TB. Plus they have a K&N airfilter for the 3.0.

Same filter for the 2.3L, 3.0L, and 4.0L. The OEM paper filter will flow way more air than the 4.0L will pull, so it's way oversized for the 3.0L and 2.3L.
The K&N won't flow any more air than the OEM paper filter, just more
dirt & oil. Save your engine, and your wallet, stay with the OEM paper filter!

Have you ever seen the demo set up for the K&N filter? the O.E.M filter will NOT out flow the K&N Filter, Plus $88.00 dollars aint a whole lot of bread either. I've had my K&N Filter for 4 years and I aint had ANY engine problems at all. When I recharge that filter all of the oil is still on the filter and there's alot of dirt trapped in the filter. Next time go into any auto parts store and check out the K&N airfilter demo before you knock it. If that doesn't convince you then well, need I say it.

I agree, the K&N will flow more air than the OEM paper filter, but so will chicken wire!! What your not realizing, the OEM paper filter will flow way more air than the engine will pull, so the K&N won't flow any more air, just more dirt and oil!!!!

?????

Please explain to me why my truck felt like it had a faster throttle response and quicker acceleration when I simply changed my OEM filter with the K&N?? Makes no sense saying the engine won't pull more air than the OEM filter allows it to.

What you experienced is called a "Placebo Effect"!!

What I'm saying is the OEM paper filter isn't the limit to the amount of air flow, it's the intake / and head intake ports that is limiting the amount of air flow.
Therefore, you won't get any more airflow even if you run without an air filter at all!!

And besides that, K&N knows the damage that their filters can cause, or they wouldn't put this statement in their warranty on their website:

"K&N will not be responsible for any other expenses incurred by the customer under the terms of this warranty, nor shall it be responsible for any damages either consequential, special, contingent, or otherwise; or expenses or injury arising directly or indirectly from the use of the K&N Air Filter."

please, people, lets stick to answering this guys question. Yes, the Filter elements are the same for all three engines. The intake tube between the engine and the air box is where the differences are. For a drop in, a "3.0" K&N will work on a 4.0, but for a whole FIPK intake, I'm pretty sure it won't work. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Dude, I don't know what you've been smoking it must've been good. Here's what research I have done and seen via a flow bench it does not lie. The CAI on the flow bench was HORRIBLE the O.E.M. intake tube out flowed the CAI but the filter was RESTRICTED very, very badly. Now the K&N filter is not as restricted plus that oil and dirt you mentioned is trapped in the filter. What you're saying is that even with the best air intake kit/filter, that THROTTLE BODY,UPPER,LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD,AND CYLINDER HEADS is only pulling in so much air. That is how you should've said it dude. Plus Ford restricts how far it opens from the factory to begin with. You need to calm down a bit and quit blowing things out of proportion and relax dude. you could cause yourself to have a stroke or something.

You only buy the K&N filter once. You can go to Oreily's and get the 12 oz filter oil for about 9.00 bucks. Or you can get the recharge kit for about 10 to 12 bucks. In about 4 to 6 hours after using the recharge kit( follow the directions to a T) you have a fresh air filter as if you had bought another one.

Wrong on the filter. Hell, a Fram filter will out flow the damn stock motorcraft filter by a huge margin. Grab you a stock O.E.M filter, a fram filter, and a K&N air filter and see the differences between them. EVEN FORD MASTER TECHS AND MANUFACTURERS AGREE ON THAT. Why do you think that Ford,Dodge,GM all use K&N air filters on their High Performance vehicles and premium luxurgy vehicles.

I have used K&N air filters in all my vehicles, and have never had any problems with any of them. I bought my 99 3.8l v6 35th anniversary Mustang one two months after i bought it new, and it still has the same K&N. It did improve my performance in the 1/4 mile by .58 seconds and gave my car an aggressive sound. I also have a K&N in my 68, 641/2, and now my 69 mustang, all are v8 5.0 and they are all running great, no problems at all. Im getting one for my Ranger next, as long as you dont submerge the filter in mud or spray water directly to it, you should be fine. i dont off road like a lot of people here do, so i dont really have to worry about it. for normal on road driving you should be fine with a k&n.

And yes it will fit.

Waaa waaa K&N sucks waaa waaa extra dirt. I have used K&N in four of my vehicles with no problems of extra dirt or oil getting into my intake. My 1993 RX7 twin turbo couldn't pull the oil out of the filter. I have said it before and I will say it again: Don't over oil it and you will be just fine.

Dude I know what you're saying about the the filter. All I'm saying is to calm down and relax. with the best air filter(in your opinion, repesctivly) that Intake manifold and Valves/cylinder heads have limited amount of air being pulled into the engine. In other words changing the air filter is only part of the equation. I also have some Ocean front property in Kanasas to sell you. here's what we're all saying. 1 K&N air filter purchase vs. 4 O.E.M air filters over the same year. You're the only one in here that disagrees with us in this matter. lets see $80.00 bucks for 1 air filter made of cotton gauze and cheese cloth, or $15.00 every 3 months for an O.E.M air filter that is restricted and usually is destroyed once it gets wet and yes even with regular daily driving it will get wet. Plus how in the hell can air flow through a piece paper? Plus here's another fact. just about everyone in here who's bought a K&N air filter/Kit says basicly it's the only filter they've used since the purchase and has lasted several years. I've had NO ENGINE PROBLEMS and have used the same air filter for the past 4 YEARS. So you tell me who's right and who's wrong.

Ditto! Thank you thank you. I hardly use any oil on mine. The less oil you use the better it works. I use less than what the factory used to begin with.

Ditto. I agree. Takeda has blown this way out of proportion to say the least. I'm trying to talk my mom into getting one for her 2002 Dodge Neon SE, but she's scared to. I told her and showed her my mpg's with and without the K&N air filter. She just won't give. here's a question takeda shouldn't be able to answer. Why has K&N Filters been in business for over 20 years if their filters suck? and why does just about everybody who works in the automotive industry mention K&N at the drop of a hat if their product is so bad? Simple their products are good and trusted by all auto manufacturers world wide. I won't get any argument on this statement(except from takeda) that K&N is the best air filter you can get bar none.

Whoa! I wouldn't say "the best. bar none". Thats a pretty big boast. There are many comparable products out there, K&N has just been around longer.

The K&N filter was developed for off road races like Baja. The OEM paper filter would plug up with dust in no time, the K&Ns wouldn't. Same amount of
dust, guess where the dust was going!!

Check out these topics:

Dusted turbos from a K&N

Hi Si in UOA with a K&N

I mentioned earlier K&N's warranty statement, they also came out with a
"Precharger Filter" for use in very dusty conditions....

http://www.knfilters.com/wraps.htm

What more proof do you need that K&N knows how bad their filters are?

And if that wasn't enough, check out this "independent" air filter test:
