My stock flange after the cat rusted and came apart so the exhaust shop welded a piece of tube in its place. I didnt think much of it at first but, today I noticed the 2 hangers that hold the muffler up were rusted off so the exhaust moves around alot more then normal and alot of stress is being put on the manifolds. The back stud on the passenger side manifold is broke off and with the flange gone and hangers rusted, im afraid something is going to break or crack.

So my question is, how much would it be to get an exhaust shop to weld in a new flange, and add new hangers to the muffler? The weird part is those hangers and the flange are the only rusted parts on the exhaust...

 

haha mine did the same crap. except mine rusted after one of the resonators and it sucked the big one. pulling that y pipe sucks hardcore. tacked it, pulled it, clean it up, welded it back shut, installed it again, now im seeing rust EVERYWHERE on my exhaust. pissed me off. im about to pull it all and do custom exhaust the way i want it all the way back.

id say a good job would prolly run around 150 just for hangars and flange. where in texas are you? here in san antonio you can get it done cheap at some little mexican shop...

Im glad Im not having problems with the y pipe because I dont think it would come off if those flanges are as bad as shape as the other was.

I just thought maby I could buy a flange, chop out that tube that they welded in with the sawzall and stick the flange in there with exhaust clamps. Then the hangers I can rig something up.

I just looked for flanges and cant find any that are made to be welded or clamped in place.

the only other thing I can think of doing is going to the junk yard and see if they will cut one off of a ranger for me (cant go into the yard), or I can use a piece of flex pipe like this.

I think im just going to go with the flex pipe, seems to be the easiest and cheapest route.

 

I have a similar problem with my Ford Ranger exhaust flange . That seems like a really good idea, using that flexible pipe. That flex pipe is going to have to go on the outside of the exhaust since the clamps will not work the other way due to the thickness of the metal in that area of the exhaust. That part of the exhaust has a pretty large diameter. I wonder if you can get the right fitment. I am going to look into that ASAP.
I have an 1986 Ranger so the exhaust might be a little different, but seems like they still have the same problems
