Ok as the title states...but dont get me wrong, im not complaining about gas mileage...i couldnt care less hahaha. Its just before the K&N FIPK Gen II intake that i put on my truck i got 18mpg consistantly.

Now after 3 tanks of gas, first tank i contributed to flooring it everywhere, but the last two were with conservative driving, im getting 13.7mpg consitantly.

Any ideas on why this is happening? im already planning on doing the basics like spark plugs and wires but after that...what has cause my gas mileage to go in the toilet?!?!?!?!

Again, dont flame me since theres a ton of gas threads poping up, i dont care
about expensive gas or how low my mpg's are i just want to know why my mpg's took a dive in the ****ter!!!!

The K&N isn't as good as a cold air intake as the stock one is. Also you might have gunked up your MAF due to over oiling the filter. Try spraying the MAF down with some MAF cleaner and see if that helps.

 

i didnt oil the filter though...or are you talking about the oil from it being brand new? But ill get some MAF cleaner and try that. I was thinking about the MAF sensor but i didnt bang it around that bad when i put it on the new intake...but maybe i did.

Any other ideas?

 

Thats really the only thing I could think of. If that doesn't work try swapping the stock one back on and see if it returns back to stock.

 

yea ill probably end up giving that a try but ill more than likely just suck up the 5mpg difference....i was getting 14mpg stock with no mods when i had the truck and the exhaust and a drop in k&n air filter gave me 18mpg....not even jokeing lol

 

Dang thats pretty impressive. I want to pick up some Underdrive pullys, I heard those can neat you a pretty good increase in performance and MPG.

 

talk to Phil...Rapala and bluetooth on RPS...hes got a tuner and UD Drive pulleys...he was the red ranger parked beside mine at the jordan lake meet, and i think if i remember right he saw a good amount of increase in HP and MPG. I wanna get some pullies also but if end up getting some seats at the junkyards tomorrow those pullies wont happen haha

 

Dang theres a good amount of Rangers here in the Triangle. I'll have to hit him up sometime and talk to him about it. I'm gonna have to get my duals soon so I can fit in with the rest of you guys LOL

 

lol yea your truck would look sweet with duals...all you need after that is a bumper haha, ill get up with you tomorrow...or today rather...about the junk yard out near ryan and if they got anything. If they got what i want, we can meet up and ride out there if you are up for it.

mmm this really odd... I put the same intake on my truck about a year ago and ive consistantly gained 1 mpg since install (if i drive the same way).

Have you tried unplugging your battery for a good couple hours?

i have the KN 77 intake (the metal one) and i gained about 3 MPG (from 14 to 17). i had exhaust done about a week later which did nothing.

I left the battery unpluged overnight to the computer time to reset. dont know if thats necessary, but it sounded like a good idea.

 

I really dont understand how some people on this board are getting such low MPG's even without big tires. I have 30's and I still get over 20mpg somtimes. If I stay on it all the time I can get my truck down in the 16mpg area. Still, some people claim 10-12mpg...

 

I just dealt with this earlier this week with my buddies mustang. Put a CAI on it wasn't running right and bad gas mileage. Cleaned the MAF several times to no avail, ended up replacing the MAF and good to go. It was a little easier to diagnose on his car because he has the SCT tuner that reads out the MAF readings.

As for increasing mpg, wdydopenthrly.... idk something like that, his names rich, lives in michigan, did similar to work to his 4.0 and netted a couple mpg increase. Same type of bolt ons as listed before, under drive, exhaust, electric fan.

 

Even though you have a completely different animal I agree, since you have to unplug the MAF sensor might have to unhook the battery to let th computer relearn... or it may be time for a tune up??? or it could be that its SO DAMN HOT that the engine is not pulling in as cool of air as it needs... since you now have an open element air filter... and thank you ssooo much for the maf adapter I jsut cant wait anymore for those durn tunes from Fred for my Rogue MAF adapter... we will see if that MAF adapter runs my mpgs down the ****ter too... also make sure you install the MAF sensor the right way...

 

Ditto - Clean/test MAF - Getting flooded with oil droplets makes MAF's sad. Should be a slight MPG increase (except in winter), not a decrease.
