Timing chain or belt

I am not sure what the 3.0 has in it? My mechanic said a chain, but I want to know if he was right seeing as I have been reading some stuff and it sounds like a 4.0 engine has a chain. Thanks in advance.

3.0l has a chain. I rebuilt my motor a year ago and put a new timing chain and gears in it.

K k cool, I am glad it has a chain less of a chance of anything happening, how much did u pay for your chain, I am not doing anything like taht anytime soon and how many miles did you have on your ranger.

Don't exactly remember around $35.00 (I think) My motor had 120K on it when the Cam Sync broke and locked up the motor. The chain and gears still looked good but I changed them out as part of the total rebuild.
