Engine Swap

I have a 2001 Ford Ranger Autumatic V6. Im wanting more hp and I didnt know if it would be better to swap it out and put a mustang motor in it or just tune the engine up.. Your thoughts and opions please.

Well you didn't give much of a description on your truck.

What size V6, 3.0 or 4.0

Auto or manual

4x4 or 4x2

As far as swapping a "Mustang Motor", it would depend what motor you want to swap. The old 3.8L is less HP than the 4.0, the 05-10 4.0 is the same engine as the Ranger 01+ 4.0. If you mean a 4.6L then good luck it's a long block and it will be difficult to fit. If you have a 3.0 the 5.0 swap is fairly common swap. You could also supercharge the 4.0 is you wanted. Lots of options. As far as a tune up goes that probably a good idea anyway since it's a decade old vehicle.

Most guys on here that run V8s use the 5.0 out of pre-02 Explorers. As you would imagine lots of aftermarket support and they can easily run 300hp with just mild parts.

Its a 4x2 automatic 3.0
