My experience with the exhaust shops in town....

Well to start the day i got my truck registered and then it was off to get some quotes for a Flowmaster 40 series SI/DO exhaust.

Well the first place i went to told me that Rangers cant do Dual exhaust. I told him, no, i dont want true dual exhuast. He told me, "i know, your ranger doesnt have enough room for dual exhaust from the muffler back." This is where i started getting irritated. He also goes on to tell me that it would hurt performance to put dual exhaust on it. I just left that place pist after he told me that bull.

Then i went to midas, i dont know how well those guys are with exhaust but i wanted to give it a shot.... I went in and this guy told me, dont go flowmaster with a 3.0 Ranger. "Why not?" "The flowmaster in the ranger gives it a thingy noise" "What do you recommend then?" "I would go with a magnaflow exhaust with 3inch pipes. I was like WTF? and gave me a quote of 650 installed.

Ok from my experience today im pretty heated. I dont know if these guys are just complete idiots or i dont know anything about exhaust. Not a good day for my first adventure in finding a good exhaust shop that would be happy to take care of me instead of giving me stupid answers.

Let me know what you think!! END RANT :)

Midas did the same thing to me with the $$. I turned to walk out and he stops me saying he has a 3" Magna Flow he will size down to fit my stock exhaust for $150.00 cash. The muffler was used but I couldn't tell. He said someone bought it and didn't like it because it was to quiet. Sounds great on my truck. Highway acceleration seems better too.
Funny is I had to go in his office and hand him the money. He even put a Magna Flow tip on it.

why is it most HP shops, I mean all are such arseholes, they think there 100x smarter than you, and think they are the baddest people on the street, thats my experience with all the lil personal shops, its like they'd rather work on their stuff instead of customers... I've had it with them... now where I got my exhaust the man was nice, and let me pick everything out, didn't tell me what to do... and was a nice price... $250 for flow 40s strait out back... I think thats the only place I'll ever go to... stupid city car shops...

ok listen man.... JUST because they said it isn't "GOOD" with the 3.0 doesnt mean they wont put it on. they would lose a lot of customers that way and the reason why they suggested magnaflow is because thats what they are trying to sell more of (not as popular as flows).. just tell them I WANT this and this done to it.. they can't refuse you or how else they gonna get your money? just tell them what you want done.. when i had my exhaust put on the guy is like "its hard to make a v-6 sound good" i said " i dont care, just put it on please" that was it. he asked how did i want the pipes to exit and what size told him 2 1/4''. oh and the fact that most of the exhaust places mainly just do fullsize trucks, they dont have the pipes already bent for you so they have to go bend them and weld, so they are basically being lazy.

Integrax flowmaster 40 series with 2 1/4'' piping.. best sound and you wont lose any horsepower. i wish i had my pipes angled out at a 45* angle but i didnt.. my exhaust including labor, all the pipes being bent welded and the muffler all for 322.. kind of pricey but i get a 1 year warranty so if it falls off or breaks or something they replace it free.. i believe i got my exhaust done at meineke.. but what i was basically saying in my post earlier is, you can have whatever you want done, its your truck. when you get the flow 40 on you'll be happy.. good luck man.. and Oh dont forget, you can always get 3 inch tips so it makes it sound a little deeper. i bought a set of 3 inch tips that are stainless steel for 42 bucks for both. not bad at all they are from Vibrant?? i guess.. anyways when you get it installed get a sound clip up of it.

edit: OH make sure you get the Original flowmaster 40 series, not the super which is also nice but the original will be louder.. and the muffler you want is Single inlet- Dual outlet.

3" pipping... wtf.. anyway... IMO the best setup for the Flowmaster 40 would be 2.25" pipping. As for price: my Original40 cost me $250 installed

I'm going to do 2.5"SI/2"DO on my truck, everything is going to be mandral bent. Should be pretty good. I'm going 2" dual out because its mandral bent and I don't want to lose to much low end torque (like the 3.0L really needs to lose any of the little it has.)

I'll never go to Midas again. It's true they will do their best the SELL you something instead of doing what you want.....and then they try to get the most money out of you. They did this to me BOTH times I went to them. I learned the first time and just tried getting a quote the second.

Midas quoted me $225 for a dumped flow 40....WTF? You could tell the guy was looking me over saying "This guy has money and will pay anything to get work done on his truck". He proceeded to lower the price as I said no. I left and ended up paying a total of $40 doing it myself.
