Compressor runs in all direction selections except floorboard

I had been suspecting this issue a little while back because of the noticeable click when the air compressor kicks on, but I have finally looked and confirmed that the air compressor is kicked on whenever I just have the selector **** turned to anything on the dial except for the floorboard. Even when I turn the heat on, the compressor is on too!

Since it's summer, it's not that big of a deal, but when it starts getting cool around here I'll be wanting that heat to work without wearing out the compressor.

Any ideas what could cause this issue? The selector ****, relay, something else?

Ok well I missed it on the first search but this time I found a thread dealing with this issue. Apparently, the compressor will run on and off like that in all modes except floor and face to keep it all lubricated. Well, I thought it was doing it in the Face mode too, but maybe not. Anyways, found the answer, thanks for looking tho! :)

If is not difficult to mod it with a switch that will keep the compressor off when desired. Just remember to run the A/C once awhile in the off season to keep the compressor and seals lubed.

Here's the basic procedure although it may vary slightly depending on model year:

That seems like a pretty good idea, the switch.. should save a little gas too, huh? I'm definitely going to look into doing that...

I've had a compressor disable switch in my Ranger for several years with no issues. I got tired of hearing it run for no reason.

If the truck is 2007 or newer, it would be a different color code (green/orange) instead of the purple in the How-to.
