Thought: Aftermarket AC Compressor

I just took my 98 to the stealership and they want $800 to install a new compressor. I have shopped and see that i can get a brand new aftermarket compressor for around 150$, which will save abotu 250 over OEM. When i asked the Ford guy his thoughs on aftermarket parts he gave me the old song and dance about how he used aftermarket once and it broke and then he bought OEM and hasnt had problems. Anyway, my question is what is my best route. THanks

usually OEM is better. Aftermarket replacement parts are usually cheaper for a reason. sometimes in areas that matter, sometimes not. take you chances, but a lot of times when you try to find the cheaper way you spend more than you would have just going with the right way...
