weight in bed = why is this?

Ok, we all know 3.0's are slow as ever.

I have noticed the few times i have loaded the bed up with weight, firewood or whatever.....the truck seems to drive better and the acceleration seems to be better.

is it just me or is there something about doing this that helps?

Trucks are designed to have weight in the bed therefore the rear suspension usually functions better when hauling a load. By better I mean it hops around less. I'm not sure about acceleration being better though. If anything I would think it would get worse with more weight having to be pushed around. The only thing I can think is maybe you would get better traction allowing you to take off faster.

The more weight in the back makes the tires grab the ground better, which is traction. its like for 2wd's, if you put some heavy stuff in the back its going to grab the ground better and get you out of most situations, such as snow.

So traction bars would give the same effect right?

mine is definetly slower with a lot of weight in the bed, not by much but is certainly doesn't get faster, traction has never been much of an issue for me, the only time my truck broke lose taking off was on rainy day when i had 215/75s on it, i will say that back bounces around less with some extra weight in it

A smoother ride and that's it. SLOWER acceleration when it's a heavy load.
