My 3.0 Pulley Problems

Hey, my heat stopped working today, and the squeal is getting pretty bad from my pulley. I just got the gatorback but haven't put it on yet. I'm hoping the heat problem is caused from the pulley. This is what I found under the hood. Let me know what you guys think first...

I have a few more pics too. What's operated by that pulley? And does anyone have a link to the diagram so I can highlight which one it is.

Looks like an Idler pulley you have 2 pullies usually that are dummy there the idler and the tensioner. if the bearing is going which is a problem with 3.0L's you just need to replace it there usually like $10.. if you swing by i can tell you for sure if its going really easy way to tell...

This one is from a little farther away. Zach do you know if this would cause my heat to stop working?

nope that won't affect your heat at all that is just the tensioner pulley...... well it looks like it anyway, but its in a different place on your motor mines on 06' so they could possibly be different. might be the idler pulley but either way it has nothing to do with the heat. the 20% underdrive on the water pump my be slowing down the amount of water being pumped to your heater core causing it to be cooler than normal. just a guess but it might be the problem.

That looks like the tensioner to me.

Alright I have an appointment to take it in tomorrow morning. Hopefully it is just the tensioner bearing, since when I went to class smoke was coming out of my grille (not alot, a little bit of smoke) and when i got outta class it was too dark to look at anything.

Just got it back, replaced the belt and the water pump and everything is back to normal. Here i was driving it around like it was a squeaky belt, and I was virtually driving w/o coolant for 2 days lol. My engine temp never went up tho, so thats either useless or im ok. And it was all covered under warranty. No charge.

glad to hear everything is fine now.....since you live in MI and it has been colder you never would have noticed anything wrong without any coolant in there...if the outside air temp is 45 degrees, the air hitting the engine through the radiator is prolly around 30 degrees....

^ yea having the e-fan, i hardly use it now that its colder out. only if it sits after warmed up for more than 5-10min do i need to turn it on. over 20mph you usualy have enough air produced to cool the engine perty good.

good to see yer back on the road and all is well
