Finally! (Re)Installed E-Fan on stock shroud

1st and foremost, I have no pics right now, I had a major issue with my digi cam. It was in my pocket of my waders and I went a little too deep on the ATV and it...went under. No workie :(

Anyways, I do have the fan mounted on the stock shroud.

All I did was take 2 - 1"x1/4" pieces of metal (cut to fit shroud), and put them across the shroud. Then I drilled and bolted them up to the shroud and bolted the fan up to the metal. It looks and performs pretty well.

I was getting 14mpg consistently with 4.88's, 35's, K&N drop in, 40 series dumped SI/SO, tonneau cover, stock fan

I'm hoping for 16mpg at the least now. Before when I origionally got the fan, I was averaging 18mpg on 33's and 4.10's.

I am even thinking about getting an aux 6" fan for my transmission cooler FLX 106 from summitracing.com

I'll try to get pics, but can't make any promises, and I don't have any during shots.

I know 04edge has the same thing...any updates?

Also n3elz...any updates from you as well?

I know you guys have both ran it like this for quite a while.

I moved my radiator back up to stock position as well, had to bend my radiator lines so they wouldn't hit the crank pulley.

So far, test and tune, I have a noticable increase in power, now I'm kickin into OD at 38mph, I was kicking in at 46 before (GPS speeds). The engine seems a little cooler, but I need to flush the coolant, I'm still on the stock stuff...and transmission was about the same, it was 150* within 10-15 mins I will have more info when I get it

Jusnes Modified efan, it's probably a year or so old, I only used it for 3k miles and yanked it off the truck, I admit I never really did it right and never really gave it a shot.

I'm doing it off the good old switch...just ran a power wire with a switch inbetween on a 20a fuse. No controller, I always have had bad luck, AC is on all the time anyways.

Thats very similar to how mine is. I did not make bends in the metal, I just bolted it flat to the shroud. Then I put the fan on the inside (it doesn't work on the outside, won't clear the engine) and bolted it down. The only bad thing is that the way the tabs are designed it bends the shroud a little.

I think my engine is running a little hotter now...but I'm also a little low on coolant which I just noticed yesterday. I think it will run way cooler.

I'm also considering a 6" fan for the transmission cooler, at 80 bux though...I dunno

Hey Ricky if you want a better fan aren't the Taurus ones supposed to be better, you should try one of those. U-pull-it had a bunch of Taurus's last time I was there so you could most likely get one with a shroud too there and I think its only like $25 for it, they also have a few Rangers (mostly older generation) and Explorers too.

Your mount to the shroud is much nicer than mine, lol. Mine looks like crap when you have the shroud off -- but it holds the fan on.

Definetly. Do you know the size hose I would need to connect it? I would probably need another quart or so of fluid?

My idea is to join them inline to eachother, so the second cooler is infront of the radiator. I need to take off my grill anyway, a piece of wood from someones truck fell off ont he hwy and slammed my grill so I need to flatten it.

Just send me a bill on paypal once you get it sent out. Thanks!

Well, I figured it wouldn't be long.

Fan couldn't keep up with the heat...my transmission was at 210 city (towing after about 30 mins of hwy) and engine was overheating.

I yanked it off and I am back to stock...THIS SUCKS!!!! I was hoping fo rthat MPG gain....

I went from 14.04mpg the tank before

To 16.7mpg for the two tanks I had it in.

Now I"m back to 14 if I'm lucky...I took it off, it wasn't keeping up with the cooling needed while towing a trialer

I want an efan just to get rid of the damn stock whine when you rev the engine up. The mpg's would be great also. A taurus or sable fan was my idea. Just check the local junk yard. Is there any other aftermarket fan that would keep up with a hotter running engine. I got small tires. I want 32's but I dont want to run into heat issues. Whats the verdict. Doesnt seem like anybody has reached one yet.

Gotta use the right stuff. IMO that Ricky used the wrong fan plus you can't just mount it like that. You need to make sure that you don't loose the "funnel" effect with the shroud. In his case, the shroud is doing nothing.
The fan he is using has its own mini shroud, but it'll only work if the fan is against the radiator so it has the funnel effect, but it'll only cool the area of the fan. That is an auxilary fan only.
Buy the one off of the Taurus that comes with the shroud. That pulls enough cfm to cool your engine. I run that on my 350 Astro in 100+ degree temp +A/C +enclosed trailer and no problems. Pair it with the SPAL controller.
